Virtual Network Management

Use this page to view the state of all the virtual networks on the managed system. For each virtual switch (VSwitch) defined in the system you can view the virtual local area networks (VLANs) associated with that switch and the partitions that are participating on the VLANS associated with that VSwitch.

This page displays the Virtual Switches (VSwitch) and virtual local area networks (VLANs) on this server. Select a VSwitch to view the virtual local area networks associated with that switch and then select a VLAN to view the virtual Ethernet and shared Ethernet adapters associated with that VLAN. You can create and remove shared Ethernet adapters on the selected VLAN.

VSwitch

Lists the Virtual switches (VSwitches) defined for this virtual local area network. A virtual switch is simlilar to a physical Ethernet switch or hub. Virtual switches allow you to create multiple virtual LAN adapters in a partition and allow these VLANs to route through different physical adapters to the external network.

Select the virtual switch to view and modify the virtual local area networks within this switch.

Virtual LANs

Lists the virtual local area networks (VLANs) defined for this virtual switch. Select a VLAN to display the virtual Ethernet and shared Ethernet adapters that are participating within this VLAN.

View by

Select to view the virtual local area networks (VLANs) associated with this virtual switch from either a partition or VLAN perspective.

Partition Table

When the Partition view is selected, the Partition table is displayed. In this table, the Partitions column displays the name for each logical partition on the managed system. Each additional column represents a VLAN under the currently selected VSwitch. When a partition has the capability to bridge the VLAN in which it is participating, that is to share the physical Ethernet connection with another partition, an asterisk (*) symbol appears next to the VLAN name. A shaded box indicates the VLANs to which each logical partition belongs.

VLAN table

When the VLAN view is selected, the VLAN table is displayed. This table lists the virtual local area networks under the selected VSwitch and the partitions that have the capability to bridge that VLAN, that is to share the physical Ethernet connection with another partition. The virtual adapter on the partition appears in parentheses.

Details

When the VLAN view is selected, this section displays the details of the partitions and the virtual and shared Ethernet adapters on the selected VLAN.

Partitions

In the Partitions table, the Partition column lists the partition name and partition ID for each logical partition that uses the VLAN. The Virtual Adapter column displays the virtual Ethernet adapter assigned to the partition. The slot number appears in parentheses.

Shared Ethernet Adapters

The Shared Ethernet Adapters table lists the shared Ethernet adapter name, the physical device name and location code, the priority, and the Virtual I/O Server with which the adapter is associated.

Create SEA...

Click Create SEA to create a shared Ethernet adapter on the Virtual I/O Server.

Remove SEA...

Click Remove SEA to remove a shared Ethernet adapter from the Virtual I/O Server.

Previous

If there are more than 10 virtual local area networks defined on the system, use this button to view the previous VLANs on the list.

Next

If there are more than 10 virtual local area networks defined on the system, use this button to view the next VLANs on the list.

Create Shared Ethernet Adapter

Use this page to create a new shared Ethernet adapter on the selected VLAN. You can also configure failover for a shared Ethernet adapter.

VLAN

Displays the VLAN selected on the Virtual Network Management page. The shared Ethernet adapter is created on this virtual local area network.

VIOS

Contains the Virtual I/O Server partitions currently running on the system that have virtual Ethernet adapters on the selected VLAN. Select the Virtual I/O Server on which to configure the shared Ethernet adapter.

Physical adapter

Contains all of the physical adapters, link aggregations, and Host Ethernet Adapter (HEA) ports on the Virtual I/O Server that are available for a shared Ethernet adapter.

Select the physical device on which to configure the shared Ethernet adapter associated with the VLAN on your managed system.

Configure virtual network failover

Select to enable a failover for this shared Ethernet adapter.

Failover VIOS

Contains the additional Virtual I/O Server partitions that currently have virtual Ethernet adapters on the same VSwitch and VLAN.

Select the Virtual I/O Server to use for the failover shared Ethernet adapter.

Failover physical adapter

Contains all of the physical adapters, link aggregations, and Host Ethernet Adapter (HEA) ports on the Virtual I/O Server that are available for shared Ethernet failover.

Select the physical device to use for shared Ethernet failover.

Remove Shared Ethernet Adapter

Use this page to remove shared Ethernet adapter from a Virtual I/O server.

This page contains the following elements:

VLAN

Displays the VLAN selected on the Virtual Network Management page. You can remove shared Ethernet adapters located on this virtual local area network.

VIOS

Contains the Virtual I/O Servers participating in this virtual local area network. Select the Virtual I/O Server from which to remove the shared Ethernet adapter.

Physical Adapter

Displays the physical device from which the shared Ethernet adapter will be removed.

Create new VSwitch

Use this window to create a new virtual switch (VSwitch).

This page contains the following element:

VSwitch

Specify a name for the new virtual switch.

Remove VSwitch

Use this window to remove a virtual switch (VSwitch).

This page contains the following elements:

Partitions

Displays the partitions and virtual local area networks that have virtual shared Ethernet adapters assigned to the selected VSwitch. Removing the VSwitch deletes the virtual Ethernet adapters associated with it.

Profiles

Displays the partitions and profiles that have virtual shared Ethernet adapters assigned to the selected virtual switch (VSwitch) and associated virtual local area networks.

Error removing VSwitch

This window displays running partitions that using the virtual switch (VSwitch) to be removed.

Before removing a VSwitch, stop any partitions using that VSwitch.

Remove VLAN
