Creating work items

Work items help project managers keep track of the work assigned to each team member. The team members can also use work items to keep track of their work. You can create a work item either from the Team Artifacts tool window or from the Pending Changes tool window.
Before creating a work item, connect to a project area.

To create a work item from the Team Artifacts tool window:

  1. In the Team Artifacts tool window, expand the project area node, right-click Work Items, and click New > Work Item.
  2. In the Create New Work Item window, select a work item type.
  3. Optional: To select the project area, click Back. If you change the project area, click Next to again select the work item type.
  4. Click Finish. The work item is opened in the internal Web browser. Log in and type the values for work item attributes.

To create a work item from the Pending Changes tool window:

  1. In the Pending Changes tool window, navigate to the change set for which you want to associate a work item, right-click the change set, and click Associate Work Item.
  2. In the Select Work Items window, click Create new work item displayed at the bottom of the window.
  3. Type the values of the work item attributes and click OK.
