Building with Jazz

Your team can use the Team Build component of the Jazz™ technology platform to define and manage your builds. Your team can have build awareness through build progress monitoring, build alerts, build result viewing, and linkage of builds with other artifacts such as change sets and work items.

The Jazz team build component of the Jazz technology platform provides support for the automation, monitoring, and awareness of a team's regular builds. The Jazz team build provides a model for representing the team's build definitions, build engines, and build results. The model supports teams with different build technologies.

Requesting a build
You can request a build from the Team Artifacts view. You can also change build properties or request a personal build that does not impact the build definition status and that runs on a workspace that you specify.
Viewing build results
You can view build results, such as execution summaries, logs, and properties. A build result is available as soon as the build request begins processing. When you open a build result in progress, you can view build progress from the Activities tab of the build result editor. You can also refresh a build result that is in progress. The tabs available in the build result editor depend on the configuration of the build definition. For example, non Java™ builds do not have JUnit results.

You can view various types of build status, such as individual build results, build events for your teams, or overall build definitions.
Setting up a build
The Build System Toolkit includes a build engine and Ant build toolkit that help you optimize the Jazz build environment. If you already have a build engine for your builds, you are not required to use the Jazz Build Engine. The build toolkit is designed for Ant builds, but can be used by any build system that can invoke Ant.
Administering team builds
You can perform build administration tasks, such as starting and stopping build engines, organizing and identifying builds for search purposes, managing which builds to delete, or associating a build with a specific release.

The Ant build toolkit contains Ant tasks that communicate build status and results to the Jazz Team Server.
