You can configure the project area to specify one or more work
item types as the top-level types in iteration plans. The top-level work items
are displayed in the Top Items group on the Planned
Items page when the work items are grouped by folders. Other work item types
are displayed in the Defects & Enhancements group
or in custom folders.
An example of this setting is to designate Story as
the top-level work item. In this case, story work items are displayed as top-level
items in the iteration plan. This helps the team develop story-oriented planning
and efficiently express the themes of the iteration for a particular component.
To
set top-level work item types for iteration plans:
- Right-click the project area in the Team Artifacts view
and click Open. The project area opens in the editor
view.
- Click the Process Configuration tab.
- In the Project Configuration section, expand
the Configuration Data and Iteration Plans sections.
- Click the Top-Level Work Item Types node.
- Select one or more work item types and click Save.
Note: You can rename the Top Items folder on the Planned Items page
of an iteration plan. The folder continues to function as described in this
topic.
