Creating an iteration plan

1. Open a project area in the Team Artifacts view.
2. Expand the Plans folder. Current iterations are shown at the top level in the Plans folder. Past and future iterations are grouped in the development line folders.
3. Right-click an iteration folder and click New > Iteration Plan.
4. In the New Iteration Plan window, type a name for the iteration plan.
5. If necessary, click Browse to modify the selections at the Project Area, Team Area, and Iteration fields.
6. Click Finish.

• Creating a plan overview
  The iteration plan overview page is used to collect unstructured information that applies to the iteration plan. This can include the iteration objectives, schedule and team role information, explanation of deliverables, links to work items, and other planning documents. Use wiki editing syntax to format the text and content of the page. Merge changes with other concurrent users, if necessary.
• Adding plan pages
  You can add pages to the iteration plan to create additional documentation for the plan. Use wiki editing syntax to format the text and content of the page. Merge changes with other concurrent users, if necessary.
• Text formatting syntax for iteration plans
  You can use text formatting syntax for editing iteration plan overviews and additional pages. Formatting includes bold text, bullets and numbered lists, tables, and links to work items and external Web sites. You can also add color to the foreground (text) and background of the page. When viewing pages in edit mode, you can add or download attachments. By default, additional pages include two image attachments: Complete and In Progress.
• Renaming and deleting iteration plan pages
  Right-click the tab for any user-defined page in the iteration plan to rename or delete that page. The Overview, Planned Items, and Charts pages cannot be renamed or removed.
• Renaming and reassigning an iteration plan
  Use the Configure Plan command to rename an iteration plan or reassign it to a different team area or iteration in the project area.
• Duplicating an iteration plan
  You can create an iteration plan by duplicating an existing plan. As you copy the plan, you assign it to a different team area or iteration. You have options to copy additional pages of the plan and their contents. You can also retain the Folders structure on the Planned Items page.
• Setting top-level work item types for iteration plans
  You can configure the project area to specify one or more work item types as the top-level types in iteration plans. The top-level work items are displayed in the Top Items group on the Planned Items page when the work items are grouped by folders. Other work item types are displayed in the Defects & Enhancements group or in custom folders.
