Comparing baselines

Compare two baselines to see differences in the files they contain.

About this task

A comparison of two baselines compares the change sets they contain and displays a list of change sets that are in one baseline but not the other. You can compare or annotate individual files in the change sets to see more detail about the scope of the differences.

To compare two baselines:

Procedure

  1. Navigate to the component whose baselines you want to compare. You can compare baselines of a component in a workspace or a stream. Components are listed by name, in alphabetical order. Workspaces and streams are listed in the Team Artifacts view. Workspaces are also listed in the Pending Changes view.
  2. Select the baselines to compare. There are several kinds of comparisons that you can make:
    • To compare any two baselines of the component, right-click the component and click Show baselines to open a History view of the component baselines. In the History view, you can right click a baseline, click Compare With Baseline, and then select a baseline to compare it with. You can also click two baselines and then click Compare.
    • To compare a component with its most recent baseline, right-click the component and click Compare With, then select Current baseline.
    • To compare a component with any of its baselines, right-click the component and click Compare With, then select Baseline and select a baseline to compare it with in the Select a Baseline window.
    • To compare the current baseline with the state of a component in another repository workspace or stream, right-click the component and click Compare With, then select Another Repository Workspace or Stream.
    The selected baselines are opened in the Change Explorer view.
  3. In the Change Explorer view, expand the components to view the change sets that differ between them.
  4. Expand the change sets to view the files they contain.
  5. To compare a file in one baseline with the same file in the other baseline, right-click the file and click Open in Compare Editor. For more information about using the compare editor, see the Eclipse platform Help.
