Updating work items

After submitting a work item, you can update it by changing status, editing estimates, adding tags, comments and so on. You can update a single work item or update multiple work items simultaneously.
About this task

You can update a work item either from the Pending Changes window or from the Work Items window.

To update a work item from the Work Items window:

  1. In the Team Artifacts window, expand a project area, and navigate to a query listed under Work Items.
  2. Double-click a query or right-click a query and click Show Work Items.
  3. In the Work Items window, update the work item using one of the following methods:
    • To update a work item in a Web browser, right-click a work item and click Open. Modify the values of work item attributes and click Save. Web browser opens all the tabs and attributes of a work item.
    • To update a work item using the Edit Work Items window, right-click a work item and click Quick Edit. Modify the values of work item attributes and click OK. The Edit Work Items window displays only a few attributes that are often modified. You cannot modify the description of a work item in the Edit Work Items window. To use the Edit Work Items window from the Pending Changes window, right-click a change set and click Quick Edit.
    • To update multiple work items simultaneously, select the work items, right-click and click Change. From the menu, select a work item attribute that you want to change. The menu displays only editable work item attributes.
      Note: You cannot update Resolution for multiple work items.
    Note: You can add comments to a work item from the Feeds window. To add comments, open the work items feed or team area feed, click Edit, add comment, and click Save and Close.
