1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install IBM® Rational® Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.2.

This fix pack is provided as a cumulative update. You can use IBM Rational Product Updater to install this fix pack directly from the IBM update server. Alternatively, you can download, extract, and install the fix pack from compressed files.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

This section describes the installation prerequisites specific to this fix pack.

2.1 Hardware prerequisites

The disk space requirements for installing the fix pack vary depending on what maintenance version of Rational Systems Developer is currently installed on your computer and are shown in the following table:

If you want to download and install the fix pack from the compressed files, then you will require additional disk space to download the compressed files and extract their contents. Refer to the table below for disk space requirements for the compressed files that correspond to your current installed maintenance version of Rational Systems Developer.

2.2 Software prerequisites

If you use the default update site preferences, IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1, or later, is automatically installed when you search for updates or optional features. However, if you change the default update site preferences by clicking Preferences > Update Sites, you must restore the default settings before you can install the fix pack.

IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.2 is available for download at: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/updater/60/zips/rpu_602.zip. 2.3 Other prerequisites

If you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this fix pack.

3.0 Installing the fix pack

You must install the fix pack with the same user account that you used to install the product.

Restrictions:

To install the fix pack directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:

  1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:

  2. Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.
  3. Click Find Updates.

  4. If IBM RSD Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. IBM RSD Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available product updates.
  5. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.2.
  6. Click Install Updates.
  7. If there is special information for any items that you have selected, a Notices window opens. For example, for a very large update there might be a notice recommending that you download a compressed file of the update and use IBM RSD Product Updater to install the update from the compressed file. Review the notice information and click Continue to close the window and proceed.
    If you have selected multiple items to install, you might need to review multiple notices. Click each update listed in the top pane of the window to display its notice in the lower pane. After you have reviewed all of the notices, click Continue to close the window and proceed.
  8. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

  9. After the installation is complete, IBM RSD Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.
  10. Close IBM RSD Product Updater.

4.0 Installing from the compressed files containing this fix pack

You can install the fix pack directly from the IBM update server as described above; however, it is also available for download. If you do not have Rational Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.1 or later already installed, it is recommended that you download the compressed files and install the fix pack from the extracted contents.

You might also want to download the compressed files and install the fix pack locally in the following situations:

4.1 Downloading the compressed files and extracting the fix pack contents

To download and extract the compressed files that contain this fix pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Refer to Table 2 in the disk space requirements section and download the appropriate fix pack compressed files for your version of Rational Systems Developer.
  2. Extract the contents of the compressed files to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.

4.2 Installing the fix pack

After you have downloaded the compressed files that contain this fix pack for your version of Rational Systems Developer and extracted their contents to a temporary directory, you can install the fix pack from the extracted contents by using the same user account that you used to install the product.

Restrictions:

To install the fix pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:
  2. Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  3. Click Preferences > Update Sites.
  4. Navigate to temp_dir\rsd\policy_60_6012.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted fix pack.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Find Updates.

  7. If your computer does not have Internet access or cannot connect to the live IBM update server, a warning appears in IBM RSD Product Updater that states that other update sites are not available. You can ignore this warning if you installed IBM RSD Product Updater 6.0.2.
    If your computer has Internet access and can connect to the live IBM update server, and if IBM RSD Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. IBM RSD Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.
  8. Select IBM Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.2.
  9. Click Install Updates.
  10. To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

  11. After the installation is complete, IBM RSD Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.
  12. Close IBM RSD Product Updater.

5.0 Installing product updates from a command line

You can install product updates, such as interim fixes, fix packs, and refresh packs, from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

6.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:

7.0 Uninstalling the fix pack

Uninstall the fix pack with the same user account that install the product.

Restrictions:

To uninstall the fix pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:

  2. Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  3. Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.
  4. Select IBM Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.2.


  5. Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.

  6. Click Roll Back Updates.
  7. Close IBM RSD Product Updater.
