1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install Interim Fix 003 for IBM^® Rational^® Systems Developer, Version 6.0.1.1 by using IBM RSD Product Updater. This interim fix is provided as an update. You should use IBM RSD Product Updater to install this interim fix directly from the IBM update server. However, you can also download this interim fix and then use IBM RSD Product Updater to perform a local installation. The following sections describe how to install this interim fix.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

To install the interim fix directly from the IBM update server, you will require 10 MB of disk space. If you download, extract, and install the interim fix, you will require 20 MB of disk space.

Before you can install this interim fix, you must install:

1. Rational Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.1

2. Interim Fix 001 for Rational Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.1

3. Interim Fix 002 for Rational Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.1

Installation instructions for Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.1 Interim Fix 002 are available at www3.software.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/rsd/60/install_instruction/6011_interim_fix002/install.html.

If you are installing from the IBM update server or from your local update site with Interim Fix 001, Interim Fix 002, and Interim Fix 003 installation files on it, IBM RSD Product Updater will automatically select and install Interim Fix 001 and Interim Fix 002 along with Interim Fix 003.

4. Latest versions of the installed interim features.

If you have interim features installed, you must install the latest versions. Failure to do so will result in errors that will block the update from being installed. If you want to install from a local update site, ensure to download the latest versions to your site.

To determine the versions of the installed product and interim features:

1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
2. Click the Installed Products tab.

If you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this interim fix.

3.0 Installing the fix pack

Install the interim fix with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

• The product cannot be open when you install this interim fix.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.
• When you install the latest version of an interim feature, such as Rational XDE^™ Model Import Feature 6.0.1.6, Rational Rose^® Model Import Feature 6.0.1.5, or Rational DoDAF Modeling Feature 6.0.1.1.0.2, IBM RSD Product Updater (RPU) will automatically select Interim Fix 003 of the product. If you roll back Interim Fix 003, RPU will automatically select the Interim Feature for roll back. If you have a previous version of the Interim Feature installed and you roll it back to the previous version, you must also roll back Interim Fix 003 to Interim Fix 002. If you do not have an earlier version of the Interim Feature installed, you can leave Interim Fix 003 on your system after you roll back the Interim Feature.

To install the interim fix directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:

1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.

Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts will not appear in the default locations.


2. Click Find Updates.


If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.


3. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select Interim Fix 003 for Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.1.
4. Click Install Updates.
5. If there is special information for any items that you have selected, a Notices dialog box opens. For example, for a very large update there may be a notice recommending that you download the update and use Rational Product Updater to install the update from the compressed file. Review the notice information and click Continue to close the dialog box and proceed.
   
   If you have selected multiple items to install, you may need to review multiple notices. Click each update listed in the top pane of the dialog box to display its notice in the lower pane. After you have reviewed all of the notices, click Continue to close the dialog box and proceed.
   
   
6. In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and, if you accept the terms and conditions, click I accept the terms in the license agreement; then click OK.
   
   After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.
   
   
7. Close IBM RSD Product Updater.

4.0 Downloading the fix pack for local installations

You can install the interim fix directly from the IBM update server as described above; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download and install the interim fix in the following situations:

• You have a slow or unstable Internet connection and want to use a download manager that can resume the download.
• You have difficulty accessing the live IBM update servers from behind a firewall.
• You prefer to download the interim fix and install it later.

To download and install the interim fix, complete the following steps:

1. Download the interim fix from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsd/60/zips/rsd6011_interim_fix003.zip.
2. Extract the interim fix to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.
3. For installation instructions, navigate to C:\temp\rsd\ and open install_local_6011_interim_fix003.html.

5.0 Installing product updates from a command line

You can install product updates, such as interim fixes, fix packs, and refresh packs, from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

6.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:

• You administer a set of product installations and want to control which updates are available to users.
• You administer a set of product installations that do not have direct access to the Internet.

7.0 Uninstalling the fix pack

Uninstall the interim fix with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

• The product cannot be open when you uninstall the interim fix.
• On Windows operating systems, you must use an account with Administrator privileges. On Linux operating systems, you must log in as root.

To uninstall the interim fix, complete the following steps:

1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.

Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts will not appear in the default locations.


2. Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.
3. Select Interim Fix 003 for Rational Systems Developer 6.0.1.1.


Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.


4. Click Roll Back Updates.
5. Close IBM RSD Product Updater.

8.0 Customer support

When you contact customer support, the support representative will require the versions of the installed products or interim features on your system.

To determine the versions, complete the following steps:

1. Start IBM RSD Product Updater:
   • If the product is running, click Help > Software Updates > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On Windows operating systems, click Start > Programs > IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 (GNOME desktop environment), open the main menu and click Programming > IBM RSD Product Updater.
   • On SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0 (K Desktop Environment), open the main menu and click IBM Rational Systems Developer V6.0.1 > IBM RSD Product Updater.
2. Click the Installed Products tab.
