1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install or update the IBM® Rational Rose® Model Import feature by using IBM Rational® Product Updater. You should use Rational Product Updater to install or update this feature directly from the IBM update server; however, you can also download the file with the extension .zip that contains this feature and then use Rational Product Updater to perform local installations or updates. The following sections describe how to install or update this feature.

2.0 Installation and update prerequisites

To install this feature directly from the IBM update server, you will require 10 MB of disk space. To download, extract, and install the interim fix, you will require 20 MB of disk space.

This update supersedes update 6.0.1.5.0.1. Before you can install or update this feature, you must install IBM Rational Software Architect Fix Pack 6.0.1.2, IBM Rational Software Modeler Fix Pack 6.0.1.2, or IBM Rational Systems Developer Fix Pack 6.0.1.2.

If you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this feature.

3.0 Installing the feature

If you have already installed a previous version of this feature, you do not have to install the feature again. Please see section 4.0 Updating the feature for instructions that describe how to update this feature.

Install the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To install the feature directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click Find Optional Features.

    If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.

  3. By default, all available features are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Rose Model Import.

  4. Click Install Features.

  5. In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and, if you accept the terms and conditions, click I accept the terms in the license agreement, then click OK.
  6. After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.

  7. Close Rational Product Updater.

4.0 Updating the feature

Update the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To update the feature directly from the IBM update server, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click Find Updates.

    If Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.

  3. By default, all available updates are selected. Ensure that you select IBM Rational Rose Model Import.

  4. Click Install Updates.

  5. In the License Agreement window, read the license agreement and, if you accept the terms and conditions, click I accept the terms in the license agreement, then click OK.

  6. After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed features on the Installed Products page.

  7. Close Rational Product Updater.

5.0 Downloading the feature for local installations or updates

You should install or update the feature directly from the IBM update server as described above; however, it is also available for download. You might want to download the feature in the following situations:

To download and install or update the feature for Rational Software Architect, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsa/60/zips/rsa6012_RMI6016.zip.
  2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.

To download and install or update the feature for Rational Software Modeler, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsm/60/zips/rsm6012_RMI6016.zip.
  2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.

To download and install or update the feature for Rational Systems Developer, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the feature from ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rsd/60/zips/rsd6012_RMI6016.zip.
  2. Extract the feature to a temporary directory, such as C:\temp.

6.0 Installing features from a command line

You can install features from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

7.0 Creating a local mirror of the update server

You might want to create a local mirror of the update server in the following situations:

8.0 Uninstalling the feature

Uninstall the feature with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To uninstall the feature, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

    Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.

  2. Click the Rollbacks tab. An inventory of installed product updates and features is displayed on the Rollbacks page.

  3. Select IBM Rational XDE Model Import.

    Dependencies between updates are enforced automatically. If you select to roll back an update on which other installed updates depend, the dependent updates are also selected to roll back.

  4. Click Roll Back Updates.

  5. Close Rational Product Updater.
