Displaying element labels

IBM® Rational® Rhapsody® differentiates between element names, which are used in the generated code, and element labels, which are used to represent elements in a friendly way within the Rational Rhapsody interface.

About this task

Ordinarily, you must provide an element name, even if you are providing a label, and the name must satisfy certain criteria, such as not containing spaces or special characters.

If you would like to deal exclusively with labels, you can select View > Label Mode. In this work mode, you only have to provide a label for elements. The product automatically converts the label to a legal element name, replacing any characters that cannot be used in element names. The text that you entered as the label is shown in the browser, graphic editor, and the Features window.

Note: When Label Mode is selected, the product ignores the radio button selected under Display Name in the Display Options window. Label Mode is a per-user setting. If the project is opened on a different user's computer, it is displayed in normal mode unless that user has selected Label Mode.
