If you have an older version of the product, you can upgrade
to a newer version in most situations. There are upgrade restrictions
for the product depending on your upgrade situation.
About this task
These restrictions apply to the following upgrade situations:
- The IBM® Rational® Rhapsody® Gateway
and Rational Rhapsody versions
are coordinated for a specific installation. Therefore, an older version
of Rational Rhapsody Gateway
is not supported in an upgraded version of Rational Rhapsody.
See the release notes for
Rational Rhapsody for
a list of the supported software versions.
- You must uninstall a previous Rational Rhapsody installation
if it is in the same version number family as the one to which you
want to upgrade. For example, if you have Rational Rhapsody version
7.5.3 already installed, you must remove that version before you install Rational Rhapsody version
7.5.3.1.
Note: You can have Rational Rhapsody version
7.5 and version 7.6 installed on the same machine. In addition, you
can also have Rational Rhapsody versions
7.5.1, 7.5.2, and 7.5.3 installed as well.
Procedure
- Remove the older version of Rational Rhapsody.
For Windows, see the topic
on removing the product from a Windows system
before upgrading Rational Rhapsody.
For Linux, see the topic on
deleting the product from a Linux system
before upgrading Rational Rhapsody.
- Restart your system before installing the newer version
of the product.
- Run the installation for the new version; see the topics
in the section on installing Rational Rhapsody.
- If you are using the Rational Rhapsody plug-in
for Eclipse, you have to upgrade the plug-in as well; see the topic
on upgrading the Rational Rhapsody plug-in
for Eclipse.
- Review the topic in the Migrating section of the Rational Rhapsody help
for the version of Rational Rhapsody you
are upgrading to and make sure that you understand any model / framework
changes the product might make or require before opening the
new version of the product.
- If you have your own operating system adapter, rebuild
your framework libraries in the new version of the product.
- Regenerate and rebuild the code for any application that
was created with the older version of the product.
