About this task

When you create a project in IBM Rational Rhapsody, a folder that contains the project files is automatically created in the location that you specify. In the browser, the project name is displayed at the top of the project hierarchy; the name also becomes part of names of the project files and folders. To start working on a project, you can use several default elements, such as the default component and configuration.

Procedure

  1. In the applicable product, select File > New to open the New Project window.
  2. Enter a name for your project.
  3. Click Browse to navigate to an existing directory, or you can manually enter a directory path in the In folder field.
  4. Select a project type (also known as a profile). For more information, see Profiles in Rational Rhapsody. The default provides you with the standard features of your product. Each project type listed in the menu provides a predefined, coherent set of tags, stereotypes, and constraints.
  5. Select a project setting. You can select the default setting for the standard project settings. Or you can select a code-centric or MISRA setting. For example, if you are using IBM Rational Rhapsody Designer for Systems Engineers and IBM Rational Rhapsody Architect for Systems Engineers, you might want to use a code-centric setting if your intent is that the code generated for your project is to serve as the blueprint for the software and you want to use the visual modeling capabilities of the product primarily to visualize the code. For more information about settings, see Project settings.
  6. Click OK.
  7. When prompted, click Yes to create the project directory if it does not yet exist.

Results

The product creates a project in the <your project name> subdirectory and opens the new project. The project name in that directory is <your project name>.rpy.
