UPDM (United Profile for DoDAF and MODAF) brings together the two main architectural frameworks in use in the United States and Europe. UPDM captures an architecture that is defined in either framework using a common set of underlying elements and relationships.
IBM® Rational® Rhapsody® provides two UPDM profiles to support lifecycle development from business enterprise vision down to the implementation of hand-coded embedded software. The two UPDM profiles have these characteristics:
The Rational Rhapsody DoDAF, MODAF and UPDM Add On is updated to better align with terms and updates defined in the UPDM 1.1 profile, and improves DoDAF 1.5 support. The names of a number of terms are updated, such as changing OrganizationType (a type of Organization) to Organization and ActualPos (an instance of a Post) to PostRole.
To use the combined DoDAF and MODAF features in your model, select the preferred UPDM profile when creating a project or add the profile to an existing project. Because views are supported by MODAF 1.2, you can also create DoDAF 2.0 architectures.
To improve DoDAF 1.5 support, you can now use a “change to” operation to switch between DoDAF and MODAF. The following DoDAF elements are also supported: OperationalNode, Systems, and SystemsNode element types. You can use these DoDAF elements in conjunction with MODAF resources.
