Restoring a deleted file or folder

To restore a deleted file or folder, find and reverse the change set that deleted it.
About this task

Deleting a file or folder from a project uncatalogs it from its containing folder but does not remove it from the repository. You can restore the deleted file or folder, along with its history, by finding the change set that deleted it, then reversing that change set to create a patch that includes the deleted file or folder. Merge the file or folder from the patch into your workspace to restore it to your workspace.

To restore a deleted file or folder:

  1. Use Rational Team Concert™ source control search to search for the change set. In the Search for Change sets window, type the name of the deleted file or folder in Name begins with field, and the name of the component from which it was deleted in the Modifies field. You can also supply the name of the user who deleted the file or folder in the Creator field, and any other information that can help identify the change set and distinguish it form any others that modify the file or component.
  2. In the Search view, right-click the change set that deleted the file and click Reverse. This creates a set of patches that reverse the changes in that change set. For more information, see Reversing a change set.
  3. In the pending changes view, expand the Pending patches folder and find the file that you want to restore (it will be classified as an addition).
  4. Right-click the addition and click Merge into Workspace. This restores the file to your local workspace.
  5. Right click any remaining changes in the Pending patches folder and click Remove from view.
  6. Check-in the restored file and deliver it. Other team members can accept the change set to restore the file in their workspaces.
