Viewing or editing the change history of a component

The History view of a component lists each of the change sets that have been applied to it. You can open any of these change sets in the Change Explorer view to see more detail about the files and folders it contains.
About this task

Every component is made up of one or more change sets. The change history of a component can be expressed an ordered list of the change sets that it includes. You can view the change history of a component in any workspace or stream. You can also compare the state of a component in a workspace or stream with its state in another workspace or stream, and edit the change history of a component in a workspace or stream.

To view or edit the change history of a component:

  1. Select the component in a repository workspace or stream. Components are listed by name, in alphabetical order. Workspaces and streams are listed in the Team Artifacts view. Workspaces are also listed in the Pending Changes view. You can view or edit the history of a component in either a workspace or a stream, but there are more editing options available for a component in a workspace.
  2. Right-click the component and click Show History to open a History view of the component's change sets. For each change set included in the component, the History view lists the creator, the work item or comment associated with the change set, and the date and time that the change set was last modified. Move your mouse pointer over a change set to see more information about it.
    • To see the files and folders included in a change set, right-click it and click Open in Change Explorer. You can select any item in a change set and compare it with the state of that item in your workspace or in another workspace, snapshot, baseline, or stream. For more information, see Using the Change Explorer to examine the changes in a change set.
    • To see the work items associated with a change set, right-click it and click Open Work Items.
    • For each change set in a component's change history, certain editing operations are permitted. If the component is in a stream, you can select a change set and choose Discard, Accept, or Associate Work Item. If the component is in a workspace, you can also choose Reverse and Suspend.
