Associating records and work items

Associate a ClearQuest® record and work items while updating an existing record or submitting a new one.
About this task

To associate a ClearQuest record and a work item, you must create the association from the record.

  1. Update an existing record or submit a new one.
  2. With the record open in the ClearQuest Records view, click the Link to Work Item icon to display the menu choices.
  3. To associate the record with an existing work item, select Link to Work Item.

    1. In the Link to Work Item window, enter the following information:
      1. From the Project Area menu, select your project area.
      2. From the Type menu, select the work item type to narrow your search or accept the default to show all work items that meet the search criteria that you specify in the next step.
      3. In the Use Work Item ID or Words Contained in the Text field, enter either a work item ID or text. The search begins as you start typing characters in this field.
      4. In the Matching Work Items field, select the work item to associate with the record.
      5. Click OK. The Link to Work Item window closes and the work item link appears in the column to the right of the record display in the Work Items section.

    2. To see a summary, move your mouse pointer over a work item link.

    3. Click a link to open the associated work item in the Work Items view.
  4. To create and associate a new work item, click Create new Work Item and select a work item type from the resulting menu.

The context switches to the Work Items view.

    1. Enter the required information in the work item template.
    2. Click Save. The work item is created.
    3. To return to the ClearQuest Records view, click ClearQuest Records on the IBM Rational Team Concert Web client toolbar. The record that you are editing opens.
    4. Now you can associate the record with the new work item that you just created by following the instructions in Step 3.
