Editing repository files

You can use the Web client to edit repository files by downloading, editing, and then uploading new file versions to the repository. You can also edit repository text files directly in the Web browser.
About this task
To edit a repository file using the Web client, complete one of the following steps:
  1. Download, edit, then upload the file in the repository:
    1. On the Source Control page, navigate to the stream, component, and folder that contains the file that you want to edit.
    2. Next to the file, click the Lock and download button and specify the location to save the file.
    3. Edit the file locally. Do not change the file name.
    4. Next to the file, click the Upload button and browse to the file location.
    5. Optional: To change file properties, click Edit File Properties and update the appropriate fields.
      Note: If the content type starts with text, the content is inlined in the file view.
    6. Enter a comment or associate a work item with the operation.
    7. Click Save.
  2. Edit a text file in the browser:
    1. On the Source Control page, navigate to the stream, component, and folder that contains the file that you want to edit; and then click on the file name.
    2. At the top of the page, click the Edit text file icon.
    3. In the editor, edit the file.
    4. Enter a comment or associate a work item with the operation.
    5. Click Save.
