The ClearCase Connector supports a ClearCase Synchronizer for bi-directional synchronization between Rational ClearCase source control and Rational Team Concert source control, and it supports a ClearCase Importer for one-directional importation of Rational ClearCase source control, with history, to Rational Team Concert source control.
Both the ClearCase Synchronizer and the ClearCase Importer require that a synchronization host is configured, with the ClearCase Connector and Rational ClearCase installed on it, and a synchronization process account is created in the repository and added to the team area.
The ClearCase Synchronizer uses a bi-directional synchronization stream to import data from Rational ClearCase and export data from Rational Team Concert. The Synchronizer is not designed to import every version of an artifact from Rational ClearCase to Rational Team Concert source control. Instead, it enables synchronization of selected files and folders between both environments, so that development can continue in each.
The ClearCase Importer uses a one-directional synchronization stream to import UCM and base ClearCase files and folders to Rational Team Concert source control with ClearCase history. The Importer retrieves ClearCase history from a UCM stream using baselines or from a base ClearCase branch using a combination of a label type(s) and an attribute type. This is not a bi-directional synchronized stream and any changes made to imported source cannot be exported from Rational Team Concert source control to Rational ClearCase.
