Creating a work item template

If you are using a process such as Scrum that requires certain fields in a work item to be set in order to deliver change sets associated with that work item, then you must create a work item template for the ClearCase® Synchronizer to use for the work items it creates and associates with changes it synchronizes.

About this task

During each synchronization, work items are created for all change sets that are brought over from Rational® ClearCase. The work item template is used to generate these work items.

The status of the work item template is inherited by any work items that are generated from it. The ID of the work item template is not copied to the new work items. IDs are assigned to the new work items by the server when they are first saved.

Note: The work items that are generated from this template are for reference only and require no further action once they are created. For this reason, you may want to select Resolved from the State property drop-down list so that the generated work items do not appear as open items in other areas of the process.
The following fields of a work item template are copied, but then can be overwritten with values supplied by the synchronizations:
  • Summary
  • Description
  • Created by
  • Owned by
The following fields of a work item template must not be filled out:
  • Approvals

To set up a work item template:

Procedure

  1. Create a new work item, filling in values for the required fields and any other fields you would like to set.
Important: Do not set any approvals on this work item. If you do, synchronization errors will result.
  2. In the ClearCase Synchronized Streams view, right-click the stream whose view you want to change and click Open to open the Synchronized Stream editor.
  3. Click the Team Concert tab.
  4. In the Work Item Template area, click Associate a work item, select the work item from the list in the Select Work Items window, and click OK.
