Changing the synchronization host

If you have already configured a synchronization host for one or more ClearCase® Synchronized Streams, and you need to use a different host, you must configure the new host and update all associated streams and views.

Before you begin

Before you begin

On the current synchronization host, stop the synchronization engine process. The repository URI for the synchronization stream must be accessible by both the current host and the new host. If it is not accessible by both hosts (for example, if the current synchronization host uses the hostname alias "localhost"), you must update the repository URI so that it is accessible by both hosts.

About this task

Restriction: The new synchronization host must have the same operating system as the original host. For example, if the ClearCase Synchronized Stream was created using a synchronization host with a Linux system, the new synchronization host must have a Linux system.

Procedure

  1. Set up the new synchronization host by fulfilling the requirements outlined in Configuring a synchronization host. When installing the ClearCase Connector, make sure to note the path to the ccctools directory of the ClearCase Connector installation.
  2. On the new synchronization host, start Rational Team Concert™ and open the ClearCase Synchronized Streams view. Right-click the stream and select Open to open the Synchronized Stream Editor.
  3. On the Team Concert page, click Change the synchronization host for this synchronization stream to start the Change Synchronization Host wizard.
  4. On the Change Jazz Synchronization Host Information page, review/enter the following information:
    • New Host Name: (read-only field) The name of the current local host is displayed.
Note: If the displayed name is not the name of the new synchronization host, you are working on the wrong host.
    • Install Location: Enter the path to the ccctools directory of the ClearCase Connector installation (the value that you noted when setting up the new synchronization host)
    • Script Location: Enter the script location (this may or may not be the same as the value on the original synchronization host).
    • Password: Enter the password for the Synchronization User ID even if it has not changed. This creates a password file for the new host.
    • Check Start a Jazz Synchronization Engine process after the wizard finishes if you want to restart the Synchronization Engine process after the wizard updates the synchronization stream and creates a new synchronization view. If you do not check this option, you must manually restart the Synchronization Engine process after the wizard finishes.
  5. On the Change ClearCase Storage Information page, change the following properties to the indicated values:
    • UNC Path to a Local Share: the storage location for ClearCase views created by the synchronizer
Tip: For optimal performance, specify the new synchronization host.
    • If applicable, check Enter additional option set information for creating ClearCase views and enter the appropriate values for Host, Host Path, and Global Path: the new hostname, host-local path, and global storage path, respectively, of the ClearCase server storage location.
  6. Click Finish. The Change Synchronization Host wizard makes the changes to the synchronization stream and creates a synchronization view and workspace on the new synchronization host. Then, if you checked Start a Jazz Synchronization Engine process after the wizard finishes, it restarts the Synchronization Engine process.
