About dashboards

Dashboards are a Web UI component intended to provide information about the project status at a glance. It provides for easy drill down to get more complete information. It also represents the integration point for the data provided by all Jazz components.
Editions note: While Rational Team Concert™ Standard edition and Enterprise edition include the full dashboard functionality described in this topic, the Express and Express-C editions include limited dashboard support. In the Express and Express-C editions, each project area includes a single project dashboard with a single dashboard tab. Dashboards are not available for individual users or teams.

Dashboards can be used in a variety of ways:

Each dashboard can be easily customized as needed many times over the course of a project. Dashboards have a low barrier of entry – a modern browser is all that is needed.

A sample Jazz Dashboard

Dashboards are Web UI artifacts that are a UI representation of the dashboard repository items. There are three distinct types of dashboards: project, team and contributor. Their association implies their intended usage. Project and team dashboards are public dashboards and are viewable by all members of the project area that they are associated with. Contributor dashboards are personal dashboards created by contributors and they can be shared with one or all project areas of which the creator is a member, or they can be visible to only the creator.

In addition, each contributor has a profile that is accessible from each personal dashboard that the contributor creates. Occurrences of contributor names in other contexts of the Jazz Web UI link to profiles.

Dashboards have a title and one or more page tabs. Page tabs have one to three columns. Columns contain basic building blocks – viewlets. Viewlets are rectangular widgets in Jazz dashboards that perform a useful function. The actual content shown in a viewlet depends on the viewlet type as well as the way the particular instance has been configured. Viewlets can be configured in a number of ways, showing different information as a result.

The left column of the dashboard Web UI page contains various means to navigate to dashboards. Each contributor can directly access personal dashboards, as well as all the dashboards for all of the projects and teams to which the contributor belongs.
