Getting started with the ClearCase Connector

Rational Team Concert™ includes a ClearCase® Connector that supports flexible interoperation between Rational Team Concert source control using the ClearCase Synchronizer and the ClearCase Importer. The ClearCase Connector also supports associations between Jazz work items and Rational® ClearCase UCM activities using the ClearCase Bridge.

The ClearCase Connector supports a ClearCase Synchronizer for bi-directional synchronization between Rational ClearCase source control and Rational Team Concert source control, and it supports a ClearCase Importer for one-directional importation of Rational ClearCase source control, with history, to Rational Team Concert source control.

The ClearCase Connector supports the ClearCase Bridge, which allows you to integrate ClearCase source control with Rational Team Concert so that you can take advantage of work items and other change management functionality without having to use Rational Team Concert source control.

The ClearCase Synchronizer

Figure 1 illustrates the interactions among the synchronization host, the Jazz™ Team Server, and Rational ClearCase.
Figure 1. Synchronization data flow
The synchronization process copies versions selected by a ClearCase view to a Jazz source control stream called a ClearCase Synchronized Stream.
New versions selected by a Rational ClearCase dynamic view running on the synchronization host are committed to the ClearCase Synchronized Stream by the synchronization process. If any items in the synchronized stream have been modified concurrently by Rational Team Concert source control users and Rational ClearCase users, they appear in an incoming change set for the merge workspace. The merge workspace owner resolves the conflicts, and then delivers the merged results to the ClearCase Synchronized Stream. Any Rational Team Concert source control user can create a repository workspace from this stream or add it as a flow target of a repository workspace. Changes delivered from a repository workspace to the ClearCase Synchronized Stream are checked in to Rational ClearCase the next time the synchronization process runs.

The ClearCase Importer

To configure and use the ClearCase Importer:
  1. Configure a synchronization host that is running both Rational ClearCase and Rational Team Concert
  2. Create a synchronization process account in the repository
  3. Add the synchronization process account as a member of your team area
  4. Perform any prerequisite ClearCase tasks for importing a subset of baseline history or importing base ClearCase version history.
After you have completed these tasks, import files and folders with version history from UCM and base ClearCase.

The ClearCase Bridge

To use the ClearCase Bridge to create associations between Rational ClearCase and Rational Team Concert, install the Rational ClearCase Remote Client version 7.1.0.2 or later into the same eclipse shell as your installation of Rational Team Concert version 2.0 or later.

After you have completed this, you can create and explore associations.
