Designing a report template with BIRT tools

Before you begin
Install BIRT tools into your Rational Team Concert™ Eclipse client.
About this task
Edition note: The feature described here applies to Rational Team Concert Standard edition and Enterprise edition only.

You can design your own report templates or modify existing templates using BIRT, an Eclipse-based reporting system.

  1. Create a project.
  2. In that project, create a Report Design.
  3. From the Data Explorer view, create a new Data Source, and select Jazz Data Source.
  4. In the New Jazz Data Source window, enter the Jazz repository, choose a snapshot relevant to the content of the report template that you want to create, then select or enter a project area. The values that you enter in this window are not permanent associations. Once you have finished creating the report template, you can add it to any server or project.
  5. From the Data Explorer view, create a new Data Set, and select the Jazz Data Source.
  6. In the New Jazz Data Set window, select a table name from the list. The available columns and parameters for that table are populated below.
  7. Check one or more columns. The columns that you select here are available to report elements for inclusion in the report.
  8. Check one or more parameters. You may bind these data set parameters directly to Report parameters, or provide some hard-coded default values for them. These values and bindings are specified in the Parameters page of the Data Set editor.
  9. Finish creating the report design and save it. BIRT reports are saved with the extension .rptdesign in the BIRT project that you created.
What to do next
Once you are finished editing a report design, you can add it to the list of templates in a Jazz project or you can update an existing template.
