Choosing automatic or manual check-in

The default behavior of Rational Team Concert™ source control requires you to check-in your work manually. You can change this behavior if you want to check in your work automatically when you save a file, or based on other criteria.
About this task
Changes that you make in your Eclipse workspace accumulate in a change set every time you check in a file or folder. If you choose to enable automatic check-in, then every time you save a file or make a change in a folder's contents (by adding or removing a file or subfolder), your change is copied to the repository workspace and becomes part of the current change set. This behavior ensures that all local changes are backed up to the repository as soon as they have been made.
Note: If you use external tools (ones that are not part of the Eclipse IDE) to modify files and folders, you typically need to refresh your workspace before Eclipse (and Rational Team Concert source control) can detect that modifications have been made. If resources you have modified are not visible in an Unresolved or Outgoing folder, navigate to the project in the Eclipse Navigator view (or any Eclipse view that lists the projects in your workspace), right-click it, and click Refresh. You can also refresh the project or any of its subfolders by clicking it and pressing the F5 key.

You can view or modify check-in policies on the Check-in Policies page of Rational Team Concert source control preferences.

  1. In the main menu bar, click Window > Preferences.
  2. Expand the Team entry, expand Jazz Source Control, and click Check-in Policies.
  3. To enable automatic check-in, select Auto check-in local changes. You can choose to have automatic check-in triggered by events like saving a resource or changing screen focus, specify that all modified resources should be checked in at prescribed intervals, or combine event- and interval-based automatic check in rules.
  4. If you want, you can select Auto-complete checked-in private changes to force a change set to be completed automatically when the changes in it are checked in (manually or automatically). If you combine Auto check-in local changes with Auto-complete checked-in private changes, every change set will contain exactly one version of a single file or folder.
  5. Click OK to save your preference settings.
