Exporting work items

You can export data from work items to an HTML or comma-separated values (CSV) file. You define the scope of the export operation by specifying a query.
About this task
To export work items:
  1. Click File > Export. Alternatively, you can right-click a query in the Team Artifacts view and select Export Work Items.
  2. In the Export wizard, expand Team Artifacts and select Work Items. Click Next. Click Browse and navigate to the query to use to return the work items that you want you export. Select HTML Table or comma delimited format as the output format. Click Browse to navigate to the directory where you want to store the file created by the export operation. Click Next. Select the work item attributes to display as column headings in the output. By default, the columns specified on the Query editor Result Layout page are used. Use the Show column setting to specify whether the internal (Internal Value) or external (Label) representation of the attribute value should be used. The external representation is how the value appears in the Work Item editor. The internal representation is a value that can be processed by the spreadsheet but might be less readable for users. For example, the external value of the Estimate attribute is in hours or days. The internal representation is in milliseconds. Click Add Columns and Remove to add and remove columns. In the Add Columns window, you can select Show custom to see available custom attributes, and Show built-in to see the predefined attributes. Click Move Up and Move Down to adjust the order of columns in the output. Click Finish to generate the report.
