In UML diagrams, you can
add and modify parameters that pass information into and out of operations.
Parameters can hold values and have a direction that you can use to
change the behavior of an operation.
Before you begin
You must have a diagram open in
the diagram editor, and the operations list compartment must be visible.
Ensure that you have not set preferences to filter or hide operations.
To see the parameters that you added to an operation in a classifier,
you must modify the classifier's properties to show operation
signatures.
About this task
To modify a
parameter in an operation:
Procedure
- In the diagram editor, click an operation to select it.
- Right-click the operation; then click Show Properties
View.
- In the Properties view, click the Parameters tab.
- On the Parameters page, complete one
of the following steps:
- To add a parameter to the operation, on the right side of
the Properties view, click the Insert
New Parameter button.
- To edit a parameter, click a column entry and change it to
the desired value.
- To delete a parameter, select it and, on the right side of
the Properties view, click the delete button.
- Optional: To manage operation return types,
in the Properties view, complete one of the following
steps:
- To add a return type, on the General page,
click Set return type and click a type. A corresponding
parameter is added to the table on the Parameters tab.
- To delete a return type, on the Parameters page,
click the parameter that corresponds to the return type and then click
the delete button.
