Installing IBM Installation Manager

IBM® Installation Manager is the tool that you use to install your software packages. It is installed automatically when you start the installation for your product offering.

About this task

If you start the installation of IBM Rational® Software Modeler from the Setup disk, either by using the launchpad program or by running the userinst program, IBM Installation Manager automatically starts even if it is not already installed. You will then install Installation Manager on your computer during the process of installing Rational Software Modeler.

The latest version of Installation Manager might be required for your package. Updates are discovered if you have not cleared the Search service repositories for updates check box on Repositories page in the Preferences window of Installation Manager.

Note: Installation Manager is installed only once for each user ID on the computer.

Procedure

  1. On the Setup disk, change to the InstallerImage_platform subdirectory.
  2. Enter one of the following commands:
    • To install as an Admin:install
    • To install as a non-Admin: userinst
  3. On the first page of the Install Packages wizard, click Check for Other Versions and Extensions to install the latest available version. If a newer version is available, it is automatically selected for installation. Click Next.
  4. On the Licenses page, read the license agreements for IBM Installation Manager. If you agree to the terms of all the license agreements, click I accept the terms in the license agreements and then click Next.
  5. On the location page, in the Installation Manager Directory field, type the path type the path for the directory where you want to install Installation Manager or accept the default path and then click Next.
  6. On the Summary page, review your choices before starting the installation process. If you want to change your selections, click Back to return to the previous pages. When you are satisfied with your selections, click Install.

Results

After installation, you can use Installation Manager or the Installation Manager installer to silently install packages.
