Creating UPIA modeling projects

After you create a UPIA modeling project, you can open, close, save, and delete UPIA projects and the files that belong to a project, including models.

Before you begin

Before you can create a UPIA modeling project using UPIA project templates, you must enable the UPIA modeling capabilities.

About this task

To create a new UPIA modeling project:

Procedure

  1. Click File > New > Project.
  2. In the New Project wizard, on the Select a wizard page, expand Modeling, click Model Project, and click Next.
  3. On the Model Project page, type a project name, specify a workspace directory, and ensure that the Standard template option is selected for creating a new model in the project; then click Next.
  4. On the Create Model page, from the Categories list, select UML Integrated Architecture (UPIA) Modeling.
  5. From the Templates list, select a template.
  6. In the File name field, type a name for the model and click Next.
  7. On the Model Capabilities page, expand UPIA Modeling Capabilities to review the capabilities that are associated with the new model. By default, all capabilities are enabled. You can disable capabilities so that corresponding UI elements are not visible when you edit the model. However, you can re-enable capabilities by selecting the root model in the Project Explorer view and selecting the capabilities to enable in the Properties view, on the Capabilities page.
  8. Click Next.
  9. On the Referenced Projects page, select referenced projects, if any exist.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. If you are prompted to switch perspectives, click Yes.

Results

In the Modeling perspective, the Project Explorer view displays a new project and a UPIA Enterprise Model file, which has .emx as a file name extension, or a blank model.
