Managing UML models

A Unified Modeling Language (UML) model is a simplified representation of a complex system that you can create to help understand and design the system, its components, and their relationships.

About this task

A model describes aspects of the system by using different diagrams, elements, or models. The purpose for the model determines which types of diagrams, models, and elements to use.

In the Rational® modeling products, you work with and manage all UML models in a similar manner. For example, you state default settings for UML models by specifying preferences. You can create and populate models with different diagrams to represent specific aspects or behaviors of the system.

The following topics provide the general tasks for managing UML models, from customizing and creating models and diagrams to organizing, exploring, validating, and saving them.
