Installing silently

You can install a product package silently by using either Installation Manager in silent installation mode or by using IBM® Installation Manager installer. When you run Installation Manager in silent mode, the user interface is not available; instead, a response file inputs the commands that are required to install the product package.

About this task

There are two ways to install packages silently:
  • Use Installation Manager installer to install the Installation Manager silently, and to install packages.
  • Install the Installation Manager, then use it in silent mode to install packages.

There are two main tasks required for any silent installation:

  1. Create the response file. See Creating a response file with Installation Manager for details.
  2. Run either installation tool in silent installation mode.

What to do next

The Installation Manager information center contains the most up-to-date information about using Installation Manager to silently install the product. Visit the information center for Installation Manager 1.2 at http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/install/v1r2/index.jsp.
