Creating UML models from shadow packages

Creating a model from a shadow package can help to reduce memory consumption and save other system resources. Typically, you should create a model from a shadow package when the shadow package is core to your system and multiple project sets share it.

About this task

Before you create a model from a shadow package, you should decide which shadow package is a good candidate for creating a model in a separate project.

To create a model from a shadow package:

Procedure

  1. 1. Create a modeling project to contain the new model:
    1. Click File > New > Model Project.
    2. On the Model Project page, type a name for project, specify a location for it, and clear the Create new model in project check box.
    3. Click Finish.
  2. In the Project Explorer view, right-click a shadow package; then click Create Model from Shadow Package.
  3. In the Create Model from Shadow Package window, select the modeling project that you created, type a name for the model, and click Finish.

What to do next

The shadow package is moved into a new model in the new modeling project . You can share this project among different project sets. In the original location of the shadow package, an element import relationship is created that points to the new model.
