Integrating Rational Asset Manager with Rational modeling products

You can share modeling items such as UML models, UML fragments, UML profiles, and topologies with others by publishing them as reusable assets in a Rational® Asset Manager repository.

Before you begin

Before you can publish UML items, you must install the Rational Asset Manager for systems and software architecture component. Before you can publish topologies, you must install the Rational Asset Manager integration for deployment architecture component. Before you can publish plug-in items, you must install the Rational Asset Manager integration for plugin assets component. All three of these components are separately installable components in the Installation Manager.

To publish modeling items to a Rational Asset Manager repository, you must have access to Rational Asset Manager. You must also install the Rational Asset Manager client plugin in Eclipse. After you install the client plugin, the Asset Management perspective is available in the workspace, which you can use to publish and download assets. Any item that could be a UML fragment is a potential reusable asset.

The following high-level steps outline how to set up your environment so that you can create and share reusable assets from UML modeling items:
  1. Install the integration components.
  2. Install the Rational Asset Manager client in Eclipse by using the update site.
  3. Open the Asset Management perspective.
  4. Create a connection to the Rational Asset Manager repository.
Contact your Rational Asset Manager administrator for information about how to install the product and how to connect to a repository. You can also consult documentation in the Rational Asset Manager information center http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ramhelp/v7r1m0/index.jsp.
