Disassembling parts or states in capsule-based UML diagrams

In capsule-based structure diagrams, you can disassemble a part into its immediate subparts to see more detail in the diagram. In capsule-based state machine diagrams, you can disassemble a state into its immediate substates to see more detail in the parent state.

About this task

Restriction: You cannot disassemble inherited parts or states. You must have a structure diagram or state machine diagram open that shows the part or state to disassemble.

To disassemble a part or state:

Procedure

  1. In the diagram editor, right-click a part or state to decompose; then click Refactor > Decompose.
  2. In the Decompose dialog box, click OK.

All the parts and connectors that existed in the nested structure diagram are displayed in the current structure diagram. All the elements that existed in the disassembled state are displayed in the parent state.
