Running transformations in silent mode

To prevent new dialog boxes from opening while a transformation runs, you can set the transformation to run in silent mode. If a reverse transformation is available and it supports silent mode, you can set the reverse transformation to also run in silent mode.

About this task

Running a transformation in silent mode suppresses all dialog boxes that the transformation generates. The transformation applies default rules and behavior, which might generate unexpected or incorrect transformation output. You should only run a transformation in silent mode when you need to validate that the transformation runs, instead of validating the transformation output. For example, you might run a transformation in silent mode as part of an automated task or automated test suite.

By default, transformations do not run in silent mode. Clear the silent mode check boxes if the transformation does not generate the output that you expect when you run it in silent mode.

To set a transformation to run in silent mode:

Procedure

  1. In the Project Explorer view, right-click the transformation configuration file; then click Open.
  2. On the Main page, select the Run the forward transformation silently check box.
  3. Optional: If a reverse transformation is available that supports silent mode, you can select the Run the reverse transformation silently check box.
  4. Click File > Save.

Results

The next time that you run the transformation, it suppresses any dialog boxes.
Note: If you create a new transformation configuration, you can specify this information on the Main page of the New Transformation Configuration wizard.
