Exporting models from Rational modeling products

This content applies to version 7.5.1 or later. You can export a model from a Rational® modeling product into a .xml file that you can import into a Rational System Architect data encyclopedia.

Before you begin

The current workspace must contain the following items:
  • A project that contains the model to export. You must close the model before you export its contents.
  • A target file that has .xml as a file name extension. You must close the target file before you export the model.
Note: If updates to the data encyclopedia in Rational System Architect occurred since the last time that you imported it into the model, you should import the most recent version.
If the data encyclopedia has not changed, or if it is not necessary to reconcile it with the model, you can use the XML file that you used previously to import data from Rational System Architect, or you can create an empty file that has .xml as a file name extension.

About this task

To export a model to an XML file:

Procedure

  1. Click File > Export > IBM® Rational System Architect > Export data for Rational System Architect; then click Next.
  2. Complete the steps in the Export wizard.
Note: If you specify an XML file that already contains exported data from Rational System Architect, the contents of this file are overwritten.
  3. Click Finish.
  4. Optional: If you are prompted to continue with the updates to the target files by using the "override" merge option, click OK. The contents of the target file are overwritten.

Results

The data from the model is exported to a file that has .xml as a file name extension. To reconcile the changes between the models, import the contents of this file into Rational System Architect.
