Mapping Rational Rose stereotypes to profiles in UML models

You can map Rational Rose® stereotypes to new or existing profiles. You can also choose to skip specific Rose stereotypes during the import process if they are not important or used in your model.

Before you begin

About this task

If you do not want to import any of the Rational Rose stereotypes to a profile, clear the Import stereotypes as UML profiles check box, and then click Next to specify the preferences that define how diagram elements appear after import.

Note: If you have already imported a Rational Rose model, a warning message might appear in the header of the Rational Rose Model Import wizard that indicates that a new stereotype must be mapped to an existing profile. This message is displayed when you import a stereotype configuration file that has changed since the last time you imported it.
Important: When you import stereotypes that are defined in stereotype configuration (INI) files of a specific add-in, you must have Rational Rose as well as the corresponding add-in installed. For example, if you are importing a model created with the Java Add-In, you must have both Rational Rose and the Java Add-In installed so the Rational Rose Model Import wizard can access the various EJB stereotypes and image files that the Java Add-In uses. For the best results, import the Rational Rose model in the same Rational Rose environment that you used when you developed the Rational Rose model.
To map Rose stereotypes to UML profiles:

Procedure

  1. To display all the settings for importing Rational Rose stereotypes to profiles, select the Import stereotypes as UML profiles check box.
  2. In the Stereotype table, select a stereotype configuration and complete one of the following steps:
    • To skip a stereotype configuration so that it is not imported, click Ignore this stereotype configuration.
    • To combine a stereotype configuration with an existing profile, click Reference an existing profile and specify a profile.
    • To map a stereotype configuration into a new profile, click Convert it to a new profile, and specify a project, location, and name for the new profile.
    • To map a stereotype configuration into a new profile by using a pathmap, click Convert it to a new profile, and then select the Use pathmapcheck box. From the Pathmap list, select a pathmap and click Apply to all to apply the selected pathmap to all the stereotypes that are listed in the stereotypes table. You can then view the applied pathmap of each stereotype in the Path Map column of the stereotypes table.
  3. Click Next to advance to the next page of the wizard.

What to do next

Now you can map user-defined types to a new custom model library, or to existing model libraries, or you can convert user-defined types to primitive or class types.
