Lesson 6: Generate the report

Until now, you have previewed the business report output by using sample data from the Sample Business Model in the data source. This lesson shows how to generate a business report that contains data from the Catering Business Model that is in your workspace.
  1. In the Modeling perspective, click Run > Report > Report Configurations.
  2. In the Report Configurations window, right-click BIRT Report; then click New.
  3. In the Name field, type Catering Business Model Report as the name for the new launch configuration.
  4. Specify the report to use: Select Location, click Workspace, navigate to and click the report file, and click OK.
  5. Specify the data to include in the report:
    1. Click the entry in the field for Data Sources. This is the data source that your report design specifies. Clicking it displays the instance model that your report design specifies. In this case the instance model is the Sample Business Model.
    2. In the field for Instance Models, select the entry for Sample Business Model, then click Remove. You want to override the default entry and generate the report for the catering model.
    3. Click the field for Instance Models and click Add.
    4. In the Load Resource window, click Browse Workspace.
    5. In the File Selection window, navigate to and click Catering Business Model.emx.
    6. Click OK, and click OK again.
  6. Define how to handle the report output:
    1. In the Format field, select Adobe Reader (PDF).
    2. Select the check box for Overwrite existing files without warning.
  7. To generate the report, click Apply and then click Report. The report opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

You can now review the report for the Catering Business Model. Compare the report with the model to see how the report presents model content.

Note: To regenerate this report, rerun the launch configuration: Click Run > Report > Report Configurations, select the launch configuration, and click Report.

The report should have pages similar to the pages shown in the following figure:
