Excluding inherited elements from capsule-based structure diagrams

In capsule-based structure diagrams, you can select which elements a subcapsule inherits from the supercapsule. You can selectively exclude inherited elements from a subcapsule, which hides the excluded elements in the diagram.

To exclude inherited elements:

Procedure

  1. In the Project Explorer view, right-click a capsule; then click Open structure diagram.
  2. In the diagram editor, select the inherited element to exclude.
  3. Right-click the selected element; then click Exclude. The excluded elements are displayed in the Project Explorer view with a red X beside them.
  4. Optional: To display the excluded elements in the diagram, click the diagram or the frame of the diagram; then, in the Properties view, on the Appearance tab, select the Show exclusions check box.

Results

Tip: If you later want to include the elements that you excluded, you can re-inherit them: In the diagram, with the excluded elements displayed, select and right-click the elements to include; then click Re-Inherit.
