Terminals

This topic describes the terminals (Terminal) that are used to connect nodes on the flow editor canvas.

On the flow editor canvas, a terminal (Terminal) represents a message that is serving as the input interface or output interface for a node. There are two types of terminals, input and output. The same graphic is used to display an input terminal and an output terminal (Terminal). If the terminal is pointing into the node then the terminal represents the input interface. If the terminal is pointing away from the node then it represents an output interface.

The function of a terminal depends on the type of node to which it belongs (see the third column of the tables in Flow nodes).

Note: Do not confuse this type of terminal (Terminal) with the term "terminal" used elsewhere in this documentation to mean "screen-based". For example:
  • A terminal application is a screen-based application.
  • A terminal subproject is used to contain operations and messages for screen-based applications.
