Rational Developer for System z

Remote Systems view

The Remote Systems view appears when you choose the Remote System Explorer perspective or the z/OS® Projects perspective.

The generation of PL/I and COBOL OS/390® stored procedures requires two connections to the remote system. The first connection is through the DB2 Universal Database™, which is required to access DB2® tables on the remote system. The second connection is through the Remote Systems view. This connection is required to access data sets on the remote system. The Remote Systems view contains connections to remote systems and shows a directory of the data sets on the remote systems. Sequential data sets are represented by a file and partitioned data sets by a folder, which contains a file for each member of the data set. When the source for a generated stored procedure is created, it is written directly to a data set that was chosen in the wizard. In addition to providing a connection to data sets on the remote system, the Remote Systems view provides a method for specifying various build properties. Properties such as the listing data set location, the load module data set location, and the DBRM Library data set location can be specified in the data set properties pages, or the member properties pages. Some of the properties in the Remote Systems view provide initial values for build properties when the stored procedure is created. After the stored procedure is created, these properties can be changed in the editor on the "Data sets for Build" tab.
