Rational Developer for System z

Setting local compiler options

You need to set local compiler options before requesting a local syntax check or local build for a local file, or a local syntax check for a remote file.

Linux icon Rational® Developer for System z® does not support local COBOL or PL/I builds or syntax check on the Linux platform.

To set local build options for a local or remote file, follow these steps:

  1. Open the COBOL Settings or PL/I Settings property group page, depending on your source code, and then select the Local Compiler Options item.
  2. Set or update any of the properties shown on this page.

Compiler Options: Specify options to be passed to the local COBOL or PL/I compiler. Separate multiple options with commas.

SYSLIB: Specify the path to be used for COBOL COPY statements, PL/I %INCLUDE statements, or SQL INCLUDE statements. Separate multiple paths with semicolons on Windows or colons on Linux, such as:
    • Windows: c:\myprojects\folder1;c:\myprojects\folder2
    • Linux: /root/project1/folder1:/root/project1/folder2
You can use the ${project_loc} variable to help generalize project builds. This variable specifies the project location. It can be used to add the location on disk of the project. If you need to pass the name of a folder in your project to your preprocessor, you can specify it as ${project_loc}\folder1. Upon invocation of the preprocessor, ${project_loc} is substituted.

Environment Variables: Specify any environment variables required by the source program. On Linux, use the export statement to set environment variables, such as export SYSLIB=/root/project1/includes.

Source contains EXEC SQL statements: Select this check box if the source file contains embedded SQL. Checking this box activates Connection Name, Browse, New, and SQL options so that you can set database options.

Connection Name: Type the database connection name or use the Browse or New buttons to open an existing connection or create new connection.

Browse: Click this button to select an existing database connection. The Database Connections window opens.

New: Click this button to define a new database connection. The Database Connection wizard opens.

SQL options: Specify additional options to be passed to the SQL preprocessor. Separate multiple SQL options with commas. This field is limited to 100 characters.

Source contains EXEC CICS statements: Select this check box to start a COBOL or PL/I preprocessor to process EXEC CICS® statements in your source. Checking this box activates CICS Options.

CICS Options: Specify any options to be passed to the preprocessor. Developer for System z can provide the correct Preprocessor options for the version of CICS that is installed on the workstation. This field is limited to 100 characters.

You are now ready to request a local build or local syntax check.
