Adding a local group or a group reference

This topic describes how to add a local group or a group reference to a message, a type, or a group.

Adding a local group

To add a new local group to a message, a type, or a group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new local group.
  2. Click Add Local Group. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new local group with a default name to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new local element.
    3. It scrolls to display the new local group:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the local group to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the local group to a group.
    4. It highlights the new local group and makes it a list.
  3. In the list, select the type of group that you want to use for the new local group -- sequence, all, or choice, or press the Enter key to use the default type (see Global and local groups).

Adding a local element

To add a new local element to a message, a type, or a group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new local element.
  2. Click Add Local Element. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new local element with a default name to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new local element.
    3. It scrolls to display the new local element:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the local element to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the local element to a group.
    4. It highlights the new local element and makes it an input field.
  3. In the input field, type the name that you want to use for the new local element, or press the Enter key to use the default name.

Adding a group reference

A group reference is a reference to a global group that is defined in the Groups folder.

To add a group reference to a message, type, or group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new group reference.
  2. Click Add Group Reference. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new group reference with a default name to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new group reference.
    3. It scrolls to display the new group reference:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the group reference to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the group reference to a group.
    4. It highlights the new group reference and makes it a list box.
  3. In the list box, select the group to which you want the group reference to refer.
