Screen operations file

A screen operations file is a service flow project artifact that is used as a container for storing screen operations. A screen operations file has the extension .wsdl (for example, myScreenOpFile.wsdl) and is displayed in the Operations folder of a terminal applications subproject in your service flow project.

In a flow that controls a terminal application (see Developing flows), there is a separate flow node to control each application screen that the flow navigates to. When you record a flow to control a terminal application, then for each application screen that you visit, the host editor creates a new flow node and stores inside the new flow node a reference to a specific screen operation. Although the referenced screen operation remains stored in a screen operations file that is physically separate from the .seqflow file that contains the flow, nevertheless each flow node that references a specific screen operation is capable of accessing that screen operation through the reference. When you play back a flow to control a terminal application, then for each application screen that the flow visits, the flow node that controls that application screen invokes its referenced screen operation to provide whatever input or other processing that application screen requires. Therefore a screen operation is in effect a program that a flow node invokes to service an application screen.

When you record a flow, then for each application screen that you visit, you can specify one screen operations file or multiple screen operations files as the working set from which you want to select a screen operation (see Using a working set). You then manually select, or else have the host editor automatically select, a single active screen operations file that contains the particular screen operation that you want to use for the currently displayed application screen (see Active screen operations file). You can then either select an existing screen operation from the active screen operations file or else create on-the-fly a new screen operation to control that application screen.

When you are developing a service using the service flow project tools, you can create one screen operations file or multiple screen operations files, depending on how you want to organize your work.
