The copy data wizard offers additional functionality for
copying data sets that is not available in the Remote Systems Explorer
view.
With the copy data wizard, you can perform the following tasks:
- Selectively copy a range of records from a source data set.
- Copy to a different type of data set.
- Use templates to select records, map fields, and scramble fields.
Launch the copy data wizard by:
- Select a host resource from the Remote Systems view and right
click to display the pop-up menu.
- From the pop-up menu, Select .
- On the first page of the wizard, titled Copy Data:
- Enter a target data set for the copied data. Select Browse and
choose from a list of available data sets.
- On the second page of the wizard, titled Data Mapping:
- If the source data set is a PDS/PDSE:
- Set the number of records to skip. If defined, copying will begin
after skipping the number of records defined here.
- Set the maximum number of records to copy. A numeric value can
be used, or you can enter ALL to copy all records.
- If the source data set is a VSAM:
- Specify a start key. If defined, copying will begin at the first
record with a key that is greater than or equal to that of the value
defined here.
- Set the number of records to skip. If defined, copying will begin
after skipping the number of records defined here.
- Set the maximum number of records to copy. A numeric value can
be used, or you can enter ALL to copy all records.
- If you would like to use templates to perform data mapping:
- Place a check mark next to Use Templates.
- Define the From and To templates.

Note: The data copy utility only supports field mapping of
like named fields to one another.
- Place a check mark next to Append if you
would like the copied data to be appended to the end of any existing
data in the target data set. Choosing not no append will cause the
copied data to be initialized from the beginning of the target data
set, replacing any existing records.
- Click Finish to complete the wizard.
