Local syntax check of COBOL and PL/I source containing EXEC CICS statements

To perform a quick verification of your code, you can execute a local syntax check on your program as an initial form of validation. Performing a syntax check is quicker than performing a full build, so you should use it when you want quick feedback on the correctness of your program. Any EXEC CICS statements embedded in COBOL and PL/I source can be automatically translated by your CICS® translator before executing a syntax check.

Before executing a local syntax check, you must enable your CICS translator. Refer to Adding CICS translation support to COBOL and PL/I applications for more information on enabling CICS translation support.

Linux icon Rational® Developer for System z® does not support local syntax check on the Linux platform.

To execute a local syntax check, follow these steps:

In the z/OS® Projects view, right-click on the resource you want to check the syntax of and click Syntax Check > Local or press Ctrl+Alt+L.
Errors found by the syntax checker will be listed in the Remote Error List view.
Double-click on an error listed in the Remote Error List view to display the corresponding line of code in the LPEX Editor.
