Rational Developer for System z

Browse

To browse the contents of an SCLM member, from the SCLM view, double-click the member you want to browse or select the member, right click and select Browse.

This function allows you to view the contents of the SCLM member without having to formally check out the member. The content is displayed in an Edit window. If you try and edit the file you will get a warning that the file is read-only and you can convert it to write. However, the contents will not be saved into SCLM because it has not been checked out. If you have used file associations to associate an SCLM language to a particular file extension so that more advanced editors can be utilized, such as LPEX, then you might not be able to edit the file.

Note: Before checking out the same member, you should close the editor opened by the browse action. Checking out the member might open a new editor session containing the checked out member and having two similar editor views can be confusing and might lead to editing the version of the file that can not be checked back in to SCLM. The location of the file used by the Browse function is not the same as the location where files are checked out. You should not modify a browsed file because there is no direct way to save your changes into SCLM.
