Data types and literals in ESQL

This topic briefly describes the data types and literals available in the subset of ESQL that is supported by the service flow project tools.
Important: To fully understand a feature described in this topic, you should read the complete description of the feature in the documentation for WebSphere® Message Broker (see Reference works describing ESQL).

BOOLEAN data type

The following table shows the BOOLEAN data type in ESQL:

Table 1. BOOLEAN data type
Data type: Literals:
BOOLEAN TRUE, FALSE, UNKNOWN (case-insensitive)

NULL data type

The following table shows the NULL data type in ESQL:

Table 2. NULL data type
Data type: Literals:
NULL NULL

NUMERIC data types

The following table shows the NUMERIC data types in ESQL:

Table 3. NUMERIC data type
Data type: Literals:
FLOAT An unquoted string of digits that contains a decimal point. Examples: 123.4.
INTEGER An unquoted string of digits not containing a decimal point. For example:1008874.

String data types

The following table shows the string data types in ESQL.
Important: When you specify a literal string in ESQL, then you must surround it with single quotes, as in the example in the table below.
Table 4. String data types
Data type: Literals:
CHARACTER '1000 Main Street'

To specify a single quote character within a string of type CHARACTER, insert a second single quote character immediately before the single quote character (for example, the string 'customer''s address' specifies the characters "customer's address").

Note: When you specify a literal string for an Assign transform in the mapping editor, you should not surround the string with single quotes (see Transforms that create one-sided mappings).
