The MFS Message Definition wizard guides you through the creation
of a new message definition, which will be appended to the device format definition
file.
To create a new message definition, complete the following steps:
- Click . You can also use the keystroke
combination Ctrl+N.
- Expand the z/OS category.
- Select .
- Click Next.
- In the Select the MFS Device Format file panel,
select the target device format (.mfs) file.
- Click Next.
- Specify the following message definition attributes:
- Message Name
- Specify the message name. This entry is required.
- Description
- The description is added to the MFS source code prologue. This input is
optional.
- Type
- Select the message type from the drop-down list. This parameter is required.
- Fill
- Specify the fill character. This option is only available for the output
type. This input is optional.
- Paging
- Specify whether operator logical paging (forward and backward paging)
is to be provided for messages edited using this control block. The option
is disabled by default, which means that only forward paging of physical pages
is provided.
This option is only available for the output type. This parameter
is optional.
- Ignore
- Specify whether device features are to be ignored for this device. This
parameter is optional.
- Click Next to specify additional message attributes.
Otherwise,
click Finish to create the message definition. The
new message definition is displayed in the Outline view.
- In the Define MFLDs panel, specify the following
message field attributes:
- Logical Page Name
- This input is optional.
- Device Page Name
- This setting is optional.
- Segment Name
- This input is optional.
- Graphic
- For an input message, this option specifies whether IMS™ should perform
uppercase translation on the segment, if the destination definition requests
it. This parameter is optional.
To create message fields, go to the next step.
Otherwise,
click Finish to create the message definition. The
new message definition is displayed in the Outline view.
- For each MFLD, you can specify the following attributes:
- Message Field
- Literal
- Device Field Name
- Length
- Justification
Click Add MFLD to add the defined
field.
- Click Finish to create the message definition.
The
new message definition is displayed in the Outline view.
