This topic provides information and resources you need
to set up connections, configuration files, and preferences for push-to-client
configuration.
Rational® Developer for System z® supports two types
of push-to-client configuration files:
- Global configuration files are managed on the primary remote
system. The primary remote system is a z/OS® system
that has been defined during host installation and configuration as
the controlling system for push-to-client configuration. The global
configuration files include the following settings:
- Eclipse Preferences. These configuration files are exported from
the settings in the Window > Preferences user
interface of a workspace connected to the primary remote system. Rational Developer for System z uses the base Eclipse
export mechanism for preferences, which saves only changes to default
values. Eclipse also exports different preferences to various discrete .pref files.
The result is that Rational Developer
for System z exports and
distributes only those Eclipse preference files that contain non-default
values. For general information about Eclipse workbench preferences,
see Preferences. For specific information about Rational Developer for System z preferences, see Setting preferences for z/OS tools.
- Remote System Connections. These configuration files are exported
from the Remote Systems view of a workspace connected to the primary
remote system. They include all remote system connections that are
defined in this view. For information about creating remote system
connections, see Creating a connection to a z/OS system.
- Installation Configuration Files. These configuration files are
created manually. For instructions on creating installation configuration
files, see Distributing product updates.
- System configuration files are managed on the primary
remote system and on other remote systems to which users can connect.
They include the following settings:
- Host-based Project Configuration Files. These configuration files
are created manually. For instructions for setting up host-based projects,
see Configuring host-based projects.
- Property Group Configuration Files - Property Groups. These configuration
files are exported from the Property Group Manager for each remote
system connection defined on a workspace connected to the primary
remote system. They include all property groups defined for each remote
system. For instructions on creating property groups, see Creating a property group.
- Property Group Configuration Files - Default Values. These configuration
files are created manually. For instructions on setting up default
values for a remote system, see Configuring default property values.
- z/OS File System Mapping
Configuration Files. These configuration files are exported from the z/OS
File System Mapping view of a workspace connected to the
primary remote system. They include all z/OS file
system mappings that are defined for each remote system defined in
the Remote Systems view. For instructions on defining file system
mappings, see Mapping data sets. Rational Developer
for System z can export
three types of z/OS file system
mapping configuration files:
- MVS™ Files - System Mapping
files are defined for a remote system.
- MVS Files - Bidi Conversion
Table files are defined for systems that use bidirectional conversion
tables.
- MVS Files - Resource Mapping
files are defined for specific data sets on a remote system.
