The searching function provides capabilities for specifying the set of fields that are required for searching. It also offers methods to search through selected, visible, or excluded records in assorted combinations through the use of a number of configurable radio buttons within the scope group. In addition, it is possible to specify whether to search forward or backward through records. Options to use case sensitive searching as well as searching by regular expression matching are also provided. It is also important to note that Find/Replace can locate results within the current set of downloaded records, or the search can be expanded to span the entire data set.
If the option to search within the entire data set is selected, Find/Replace will first search through the current set of downloaded records in the direction that was specified. When the search reaches the top or bottom of the existing records, depending on which direction was specified, a prompt will be displayed asking if you would like to continue your search outside of the current set or records and into the remaining portion of the data set. If you select yes, Find/Replace will search the remaining portion of the data set for results. If a new match is found, you will be notified of the results in a message dialog. Selecting OK to the message dialog will download the next group of records into the editor that contain the next match. If the search yields no new results, you will be prompted that the search has concluded without any new results.
