Batch build functions

From the Build dialogs invoked either from the Package Explorer or the SCLM View, the batch build function allows you to submit a batch function for an SCLM build. In this way, there is no requirement to hold the connection until the build process completes. A build key is returned to the project that is used to obtain the build job status using the Get Build Job Status function.

The default SCLM Build skeletons on the host are employed to file tailor the Batch Build job. Additionally, a job card can be entered or edited in the Build dialog. Default Build job cards can be used. To recreate a default job card after it has been edited, save an empty job card, re-edit it and click Retrieve. This restores the default job card that is defined in the SCLM Developer Toolkit configuration at the host.

The default build job cards can be specified by your system administrator. The default job cards are defined in the SITE.conf file or project.conf file for your SCLM project. For more information on the Site and Project configuration files see the section on “SITE and project-specific options” in the SCLM Developer toolkit Installation and Customization guide.

The process of checking for the status of batch jobs can be automated so that a status operation runs periodically to establish the build status and notify you. By checking the batch build monitor in the SCLM Preferences Page a timer can be set to periodically check the build status. Additionally, once the Batch build job completes, you are automatically notified by the Batch Job monitor. From the Batch Job monitor you can retrieve the batch job output by clicking Retrieve Job Output.
