IBM File Manager templates

A File Manager template is a file that provides a particular interpretation of a data set.

The template defines a logical view that you can use to view and manipulate data within records. In addition to defining record layouts, templates are also used to define various forms of record criteria and other field properties. All of these features combine to further enhance your view of the data set when applied within the Formatted Data Editor. Templates obtain their data structures directly from COBOL copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files, but can also be created dynamically. Different templates can be applied to the same data one at a time, to achieve different purposes. Also, a single template can be applied to different data sets, if they have similar record and field structures.
