SCLM promote

To promote files in SCLM, select the IDE file, right click and select Team -> Promote. Alternatively, from within the SCLM view, select the file, right click and select Promote.

The SCLM Promote function moves eligible files up to the next level of the SCLM development tree. Promotion can be done on the basis of individual members or more commonly by promoting an Archdef file. The Archdef file contains the list of members built. By promoting the Archdef file the members in the file are promoted as well.

SCLM can be configured to prevent the use of online promotes initiated from the SCLM Developer Toolkit. If SCLM has been configured in this way, an error dialog is displayed indicating that online promotes are not permitted by SCLM. For more information on this feature see the section on “SITE and project-specific options” in the SCLM Developer Toolkit Installation and Customization guide.

SCLM can also be configured to allow promotion only by architecture definition. If SCLM is configured to allow promotion by architecture definition only, the Promote selections might be disabled on individual files and you will need to use the Archdef Promote functions.

If Breeze has been enabled in SCLM, the Breeze Control Parameters page is displayed. Breeze is an SCLM Advanced Edition add-on product that provides the ability to set up approvals prior to promotions taking place. So the promotion request can be submitted but must be approved to for the promotion to take place. For more information on enabling the Breeze feature see the section on “SITE and project-specific options” in the SCLM Developer toolkit Installation and Customization guide. For more information on Breeze, see the Breeze for SCLM Functional Overview (SC31-8818-04) which can be viewed at http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/sclmsuite/breeze/library/.
