Rational Developer for System z

Returning a z/OS project to online state

If you have taken a project offline and are ready to connect it a remote system again, you can return it to online state.

About this task

When a project is offline, the resources on the remote system are still accessible to others. You will need to merge your changes with any changes other users have made to resources.

To connect a z/OS® project back to the remote system and work online, follow these steps:

Procedure

  1. In the z/OS Projects or Enterprise Projects view, right-click the project to be moved online and click Work Online. If any of the associated systems are not connected, you are prompted to connect before the project is moved to online state. Rational® Developer for System z® attempts to resynchronize your local resources with the remote system. A progress indicator is displayed while collecting out-of-synch resources. Resynchronizing can take a few minutes if the offline project is large. After resynchronizing, the Work Online window opens showing the resources that have been changed since the project was taken offline. If you have renamed an offline resource, this change shows up as two separate update operations: a deletion of the old resource and an addition of the newly renamed resource.
  2. You can make updates as follows:
    1. To view differences between a local and remote resource, select the resource of interest in the Changes pane. A Text Compare pane opens showing the differences between the local and remote resources. you can handle conflicts as follows:
      • If a file is modified both locally and on the host, it is marked with a red diamond. You can copy changes from the remote system to your local workspace by clicking the right arrow button between the two panes.
      • After fixing the conflicts, you can save the local file by right-clicking and selecting Save on the pop-up menu.
      • To indicate that all conflicts have been resolved, select the resource in the Changes pane and click Mark as Merged.
    2. To download a resource that has changed on the remote system, select it and click Download.
    3. To upload a resource that you have changed locally, select it and click Upload. If you choose to overwrite a remote resource when you take a project back online, any changes that others have made to the resource on the remote system will be lost.
    4. To upload the entire subproject, select the subproject name in the Changes pane and click Upload.
  3. After you have uploaded or downloaded all the resources you want, click the Work Online button.
