Menu Manager provides z/OS® substitution
variables that you can use to gather information from users or from
the objects your actions execute on.
The Menu Manager z/OS variables
are available when you create a new action that operates on a file.
To see available z/OS variables,
do these steps:
- Create a new file menu or open an existing file menu. See Creating
a custom file menu.
- Create a new local or remote action or open an existing action.
See Creating
a simple local file action or Creating
a simple remote file action.
- Navigate to the Run Options page and click Variables. The Substitution
Variables window opens. This window can have two formats:
- If the action was created for all contexts, by specifying Context:
All in the New Action Page, then
the Substitution Variables window contains a
drop-down list from which you can select a context to see which variables
are available for that context.
- If the action was created for one or more specific contexts, then
the Substitution Variables window contains a
tabbed page for each context. To see which variables are available
for each context, click one of the tabs, such as MVS Files
in System z LPEX Editor, MVS Files in z/OS
Projects view, or MVS Files in Remote Systems
view, to see a list of variables you can use in each supported
context for the action.
The list of variables that are available is specific to each
context. These lists also include variable descriptions. See the related
topics for some examples of using substitution variables with Menu
Manager actions.
