Allocate like wizard

The allocate like wizard offers the ability to allocate VSAM data sets in the Remote Systems Explorer view.
Launch the allocate like wizard by:
  1. Select a host resource from the Remote Systems view and right click to display the pop-up menu.
  2. From the pop-up menu, Select Allocate Like.
    Note: A new VSAM data set can be allocated without the use of an existing data set by navigating to the MVS™ file system of a connection in the Remote Systems Explorer view and selecting New > Allocate VSAM from the pop-up menu.
  3. On the first page of the wizard, titled Allocate VSAM:
    1. Enter a name for the new data set to be allocated.
    2. Click Finish to complete the wizard, or Next for additional options.
  4. On the second page of the wizard, titled VSAM Data Set Allocation:
    • Select the radio button next to Copy characteristics from an existing data set to allocate the data set using previously used characteristics. The resource initially selected from the Remote Systems view is selected automatically but can be changed by selecting the Browse button.
    • Select the radio button next to Specify characteristics (Advanced allocation) to specify allocation attributes manually.
    • Click Finish to complete the wizard, or Next for additional options.
  5. On the last page titled, Allocate Target:
    • Use the options on this page to customize the allocation information for the new data set.
  6. Click Finish to complete the wizard and allocate the new data set.
