When you request a local syntax check, SCLM Developer Toolkit uses the workstation compilers to show you compilation errors in programs you are working on. SCLM Developer Toolkit optionally searches the remote system for all dependencies and caches these files in a temporary location in your workspace. This search and temporary caching enables Rational® Developer for System z® to complete a syntax check without requiring you to check out the dependent files from SCLM. You must, however, check out the main source file from SCLM in order to use local syntax checking.
To use this function, you must first be connected to the host. To do a local syntax check of a local file from the SCLM view, follow these steps:
. The Check Dependencies window opens, prompting you to refresh dependencies for the file. If you have reason to believe that the dependencies have changed since the last syntax check, you can optionally perform a dependency check using the Refresh Dependencies function. Otherwise, click Syntax Check ->Syntax Check - Local only. The local compiler is started to perform the syntax check. When the syntax check is completed, any errors are displayed in the Remote Error List. If there are no errors, control is returned to you and you can continue working.
You can perform a local syntax check on programs that contain embedded SQL statements. If you do not specify a working connection to a database you will receive an error stating that no connection exists. This is expected and does not affect the gathering or display of other compilation errors.
