JES, MVS, and connections -- when needed

This topic describes when you need a connection to MVS™ and when you need a connection to z/OS® UNIX System Services to copy the output files created by the Generate Runtime Code wizard to a remote z/OS system.
Table 1 summarizes when each type of connection is needed:

Type of connection: Types of files that you transfer using this type of connection: When these types of files are generated:
MVS:
  • COBOL source file
  • COBOL copy book files
  • JCL files
Whenever you run the Generate Runtime Code wizard, if you want to copy the generated files to your remote z/OS system.
z/OS UNIX System Services:
  • The WSBind file for a Web service
  • The WSDL file for a Web service
When you run the Generate Runtime Code wizard to generate a Web service, if you want to copy the generated files to your remote z/OS system.
The service flow properties file (extension .sfp). When you run the Generate Runtime Code wizard to create output files for CICS Service Flow Runtime: Level 2.0 (see CICS® Service Flow Runtime Levels 1.0 and 2.0).
