Screen operations mode and flow mode

The host editor has two modes: screen operations mode and flow mode.

Screen operations mode is used for recording screen operations files for terminal applications (see Working with screen operations files).

Flow mode is used for recording flows for terminal applications. When the host editor is opened, it is initially in flow mode (see Recording a flow in the host editor).

Note: When you record a flow, you can choose to record a screen operations file at the same time that you are recording the flow (see Recording a screen operations file).
The first icon on the host editor toolbar indicates which mode you are in. Click the icon to switch modes:
When this icon is the first icon in the host editor toolbar: The host editor is in the following mode: Clicking the icon switches the host editor to the following mode:

The following table shows the five parts of the Terminal tab of the host editor and describes the extent to which each of these five parts is different in screen operations mode as opposed to flow mode.
Part of the Terminal tab: Difference in screen operations mode and flow mode:
Toolbar Some of the icons on the toolbar are different in screen operations mode than they are in flow mode (see Toolbar).
Terminal emulation area This part of the Terminal tab is the same in both modes (see Terminal emulation area).
Drawer containing AID keys and textual OIA information. This part of the Terminal tab is the same in both modes (see Drawer containing AID keys and textual OIA information).
Information area showing artifacts currently in use. This area functions somewhat differently in screen operations mode and flow mode (see Information area).
Screen operations file selection drawer This drawer is available only in flow mode (see Screen operations file selection drawer).
