This lesson will teach you how to create the database tables
on the host system. You will need special privileges to be able to
create and modify database tables on the host system, so check with
your systems administrator before beginning.
Note: This lesson assumes you have a solid understanding
of COBOL, JCL, and compilation.
To create the database tables
needed for the Global Auto Mart tutorial:
- The GAM0VDB.cbl file inserts data into
the Global Auto Mart sample database tables. You should compile this
file with the following provided copybooks: GAM0BCD, GAM0BDD, GAM0BED, GAM0BMD, GAM0BPD,
and GAM0BUD.
- Once compiled, GAMOVDB can be run with
the sample JCL GAM0VCDB. The JCL drops the required
tables, if they already exist or creates the tables if they don't,
and then runs GAM0VCDB to populate the tables.
- In the JCL file, provide the database schema name by changing
all instances of &SCHEMA to match the desired
schema name.
