Rational Developer for System z

Setting bidirectional conversion support for an MVS system

About this task

Rational® Developer for System z® provides special bidirectional properties for the MVS™ Files subsystem to allow correct bidirectional layout conversions for MVS files transferred between the client and server. There are two methods for specifying these options:

To apply bidirectional conversion support to an MVS Files subsystem, do these steps:

Procedure

  1. In the Remote Systems view, right-click MVS Files under a z/OS® connection and click Properties. The Properties window opens.
  2. Click Code Pages in the list on the left.
  3. To use a bidirectional conversion table, do these steps:
    1. Click Use the following Bidi Conversion Table (BCT). This option enables the text entry field and the Browse button.
    2. Enter the name of a bidirectional conversion file you have created or click Browse to look for and select a conversion file. See the related topics for more information on creating a bidirectional conversion table.
    3. To replace the current code page settings with the code pages specified in the bidirectional conversion table, click Copy Code Pages. The code pages specified in the bidirectional conversion table are shown below the file name field. Code pages in the bidirectional conversion table have no effect on data conversion during file transfers (which use the code pages specified in the Code Pages section of this window), but you can replace currently used code pages with those specified in the bidirectional conversion table using the Copy Code Pages button.
  4. To use manual bidirectional settings, do these steps:
    1. Click Use the following manual bidi settings. This option enables a set of default bidirectional settings.
    2. Click Edit to open a dialog that you can use to change the default settings.
    3. Click Save as BCT to save the current settings to a new bidirectional conversion table.
  5. Click OK to apply the changes.
