Rational Developer for System z

User interface conventions

SCLM Developer Toolkit uses a variety of decorators and visual cues to signify status or function. For example the term LOCKED appears next to a file that is subject to an SCLM Edit function. A member that is in the project but not in SCLM has the [not in SCLM] decorator applied to it. The SCLM Developer Toolkit uses dialogs to prompt you for information as needed. These dialogs check for required fields and perform some validation on the values you specify before sending requests to the host.

All Team functions are presented with a progress meter dialog when invoked. This allows you to cancel that function. This only applies to the general functions. Once the SCLM function has been invoked, it is not possible to stop it, however, you can continue to operate as if that function has been cancelled.

The dialog boxes provide drop down lists so you can select values valid to SCLM. These lists are populated based on information retrieved from SCLM when your session is initiated. It is possible that updates are performed directly against SCLM for which the workstation is not aware. If the drop down list does not present valid options, you can refresh the SCLM parameter list from the SCLM Developer Toolkit Preference Page. Select the Retrieve buttons to access the latest project information from SCLM and populate the listbox.

All SCLM functions return an Operation Result dialog detailing the return status of that function. A return status of 0 indicates success. A return status of 4 indicates that there were some messages issued during the operation, these might not affect the outcome of the operation. All other values indicate a failure. In some cases, a warning message indicates that the operation might have partially completed. If you receive such warning messages, you should look at the operations log for further information.

The SCLM Developer Toolkit Preference page allows you to turn off the Operation Logs dialogs. The resulting messages are populated in the Eclipse Task list. If using this preference, detailed messages can be retrieved using the Operations Log function. You can also specify the maximum amount of disk space to use for operations logs, and the maximum length of time to retain logs from within the SCLM Developer Toolkit Preferences page.
