Modifying a descriptor

To modify a descriptor, select the descriptor and then modify one or more properties of the descriptor, using any of the methods that are available when you create a descriptor of the same type.

To modify a descriptor:

  1. On the Screen Descriptions tab of the screen message editor, select the descriptor that you want to modify.

  2. The screen message editor displays the properties of the selected descriptor in the Properties view.

  3. Modify the property or properties that you want to modify, using any of the methods that are available when you create a descriptor of the same type.
    Tip: If the Properties view is not visible, see Opening or reopening a view.
    • To modify a property directly:
      1. In the Properties view, select the property that you want to modify.
      2. Type or select the new value that you want to property to have.
    • To modify a property using a marking rectangle, graphical aid, or other aid:
      1. If a marking rectangle, graphical aid, or other aid is available when you create a descriptor, then the same aid is also available when you modify a descriptor of the same type.
      2. The aid becomes available as soon as you select the descriptor.

      Table 1 shows the marking aid used with each descriptor.

      Number of fields When the descriptor is created, it is set to the number of fields that are present in the application screen from which the screen message was created. Adding a Number of Fields descriptor
      Number of input fields When the descriptor is created, it is set to the number of input fields that are present in the application screen from which the screen message was created. Adding a Number of Input Fields descriptor
      Fields checksum When the descriptor is created the checksum value is calculated automatically. Adding a Fields Checksum descriptor
