When you run a software analysis configuration, the COBOL Code Review runtime component applies the rules in turn to each source file in the scope. For each rule, the runtime component scans the COBOL source file looking for an infraction: a segment of source code that is inconsistent with the rule.
For each infraction, called a result, the runtime component records the rule ID, the source file, the failing segment, and the line number where the failing segment begins.
When you open a COBOL source file in the COBOL editor after a code review, each infraction that was detected in the code review is marked by an icon in the left margin of the editor, beside the line of code at which the infraction occurs. You can click the icon to get the details of the infraction.
You can view the complete results of the COBOL code review in the Software Analysis Results view. (Results are discarded when Developer for System z® closes.) Clicking a result and then clicking View Result causes the relevant source code file to be opened in the COBOL editor and positioned at the location of the infraction.
Thus a developer can run a code review and look at the results to see if any infractions were detected. If so, then from the result the developer can immediately open the source file at the point where the infraction was found and fix the problem.
You can save the results of a COBOL code review by generating a report in PDF or HTML format.
You can distribute a software analysis configuration to developers using push-to-client.
