This topic describes how to sort records within the Formatted
Data Editor.
Sorting allows you to rearrange the order of records in a data
set based on multiple fields or columns that you select. Sorting can
be performed on both formatted and unformatted data sets. Records
can be sorted within the Formatted Data Editor using the following
methods:

- Click any of the column headings in the Table view or Select the Sort icon
from the top of the Formatted Data
Editor.
- Select a Sort Type:
- Sort all records - Sort all records within
the data set.
- Restore keyed records - Restore the data
set to its original key order. (KSDS type data sets only).
- In the Sort by section, select up to five
fields to sort by. For each field selected, choose to sort it as Ascending (default)
or Descending. Fields can only be selected
once.
- Click OK to sort your data set or Close to
exit the sort panel.

data set:

Editor.

the data set.
- Restore keyed records - Restore the data
set to its original key order. (KSDS type data sets only).

columns to sort by. For each column selected, choose to sort it as Ascending (default)
or Descending Columns or groups of columns
can only be selected once.

Note: Sorting is only available on data sets that are loaded
in memory. If your data sets are larger than the memory currently
allocated for File Manager, additional memory may be needed. In addition,
sorting is not available on data sets opened in an
In Place edit session.
