You can create different types of connections to your 390
database according to how you plan to use the connection. If you
want to perform a local syntax check of a remote file, for example,
you use an Application Driver connection. This lesson describes how
to create a connection to your 390 database using the universal JDBC
driver.
To create a connection to a 390 database using the universal
JDBC driver, do these steps.
Note: The examples in this tutorial use
a connection to DB2® for z/OS® V8. The windows and fields
for other versions of DB2 may
be different from those shown in this tutorial.
- To open the Data Perspective in Rational® Developer for System z®, select Window
> Open Perspective > Data. The Data perspective
opens. This perspective contains a view called the Data
Source Explorer.
- In the Data Source Explorer, right-click
the Database Connections folder and click New. The New Connection wizard opens.
- Complete the fields on this wizard using the database connection
information you gathered from your database administrator. You can
name the connection whatever you want.
- Select a database manager: Click DB2
for z/OS.
- JDBC driver: Click IBM Data
Server Driver for JDBC and SQLJ Default.
- Location: The name of the database location.
You would see this name if you were to look at the entries in the
SYSIBM.LOCATIONS table.
- Host: The IP address of the zSeries® system to which you are connecting.
- Port number: The port that is used for
the JDBC connection to the database.
- User name: Your DB2 user ID.
- Password: your DB2 password.
- Click Finish
When you have completed these steps, your new connection displays
in the Database Connections folder of the Data
Source Explorer view.
