You configure property groups and default property values
for a remote system by creating a set of configuration files on that
system.
- Configuring property groups populates the Property Group Manager
with one or more property groups when a user connects to a remote
system for the first time. If a system property group file exists
on the remote system, the property groups are loaded from the system
file and users see them in the Property Group Manager view.
If a current property group is specified in the file,
that property group is associated with the MVS Files node
in the Remote Systems view. The property groups
are persisted in the workspace just like the property groups the user
creates. If the system property group file is updated later, users
are prompted to replace the newer property groups from the system
with the property groups that were originally loaded from the system.
Individual users can edit, delete, or associate system property groups
with resources. They can also create their own property groups.
- Configuring default property values enables you to define site-specific
defaults for particular properties. When a user connects to a system
for the first time, Rational® Developer
for System z® determines
whether a default values file exists on the system. If so, the default
values are stored in the workspace so that whenever users create a
new property group for that system, the defaults from the default
values file are used. For properties that do not have default values
in the default values file, the default Rational Developer for System z property values are used. If the
default values file on the system is updated after the default values
are transferred to the workspace, users are prompted to replace the
defaults in the workspace with the ones from the system.
If no default property values are configured for a remote system
then the system uses default values shipped with Rational Developer for System z.
To configure property groups
and default property values on a remote system, you need to define
the following configuration files. See the Related Tasks for instructions
and examples.
- A properties configuration file that points to the locations
of the system property group and default values files.
- A system property group file that defines property groups
that will be available when users connect to the system for the first
time.
- A default values file that defines property values that
will be available to users when they connect to the system for the
first time.
