Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Mapping data sets

A data set mapping associates the lowest level qualifier in each MVS™ data set to a file name extension that is used for the related workstation-based file in your subprojects. Follow these steps to add a data set mapping:
  1. Open the z/OS® File System Mapping view.
  2. Select the system you want to modify mappings for from the System list.
  3. Right-click on the table in the z/OS File System Mapping view and select Add Data Set Mapping. The Add Data Set Mapping window opens.
  4. Specify a string in the Mapping Criterion field. Data sets with names matching this string will be included in this mapping. Use ** as a wild card for matching across name level boundaries and * as a wild card for matching within name level boundaries. For example, specifying the string USER.**COB* matches any data sets with a high-level qualifier of "USER" that also has a low-level qualifier containing "COB".
  5. Fill in the properties for the rest of the fields as necessary.
  6. Click OK. The new mapping appears in the table. You can sort this table by any of the headings shown in the view (such as Mapping Criterion, Workstation File Extension, Transfer Mode, and so on). To sort the table, click a table heading.
  7. Optional: You can override these system-wide mappings by defining mappings for specific data sets or members by following these steps:
    1. Right-click on the data set or member in the Remote Systems view and click Properties.
    2. Click Mapping in the list on the left. This opens the Mapping pane on the right, which is similar to the Add Data Set Mapping window.
    3. Leave the option to inherit values selected for each of the values you want to be cascaded down from a higher level.
