Creating a new device format definition

The MFS Device Format wizard guides you through the creation of a new device format definition.
Note: The format definition file can be created directly as a PDS member, under an existing PDS on the host. You can then add the file to an existing MVS™ subproject.
To create a new format definition file, complete the following steps:
  1. Select File > New > Other. You can also use the keystroke combination Ctrl+N.
  2. Expand the z/OS category.
  3. Select MFS > MFS Device Format.
  4. Click Next.
  5. In the MFS File Location panel, select the location that you want in a local project or in a PDS on the host. Type the format definition file name that you want.
  6. Click Next to set specific device format attributes.
  7. You can specify the following device format attributes:
    Device Format Name
    Specify the device format name. This parameter is required.
    Description
    The description is added to the MFS source code prologue. This input is optional.
    Width
    Specify the device width. This parameter is optional.
    Device Type
    Select a 3270 display or printer device type. This parameter is required.
    Substitution
    Specify the substitution variable. This parameter is optional.
    Format Type
    Select the division format type from the drop-down list. This setting is required.
    Compression
    Select the compression from the drop-down list. This setting is required.

    Select Add to MVS Subproject, if you want to add the new format definition file to an existing MVS subproject. Click an existing MVS subproject from the drop-down list.

  8. Click Finish to complete creation of the device format.
The new device format file is displayed in the specified location on the local or remote system.
