The Rational Developer for System z Welcome page

The Welcome page provides resources to orient you to Rational® Developer for System z® and help you start using the product.

The Welcome Experience is a set of informative and interactive contents to orient beginners to Rational Developer for System z. You should see the Welcome Experience when you first start the product. If you have been working in the product and the Welcome Experience is not currently displayed, select Help > Welcome.

The following content areas are included in the Welcome Experience:

Overview
The overview contains introductory information, product tours, and links to the help system that orient you to the product and its features and functions.
What's new
This content area describes features and functions that are new in this release of the product. "Developing z/OS® applications and Web service interfaces" describes new features and functions for working with z/OS applications.
Web resources

This content area provides links to more information on the World Wide Web about Rational Developer for System z and its tools and related products.

First steps
This content area links you to quick start documents for some of the most common tasks you will perform using the product.

"Quick tasks" contain links to viewlets and demos for Rational Developer for System z, WebSphere® Developer for System z, common tasks, and specific features.

"Developing z/OS applications" includes the following topics:

  • "Quick start guide for the experienced 3270 ISPF user" contains the key concepts of z/OS development for those experienced with ISPF on the host system.
  • "Connect to your z/OS system" shows you how to create a connection to your remote z/OS system.
  • "Introduction to the BMS editor" shows you how to visually edit BMS map sets.

"Transform z/OS applications into Web services" includes the following topics:

  • "Learn about Enterprise Service Tools" shows you how to use the tools to assist you in transforming existing CICS® applications into Web services.
  • "Learn to transform existing CICS applications into Web services" steps you through samples that generate Web services from existing CICS applications and that develop a comprehensive Web service.
