Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Checking the syntax of remote COBOL source code using CICS TXSeries for Windows

You can perform a local syntax check of remote files using a CICS® TXSeries® for Windows® region by using CICS TXSeries to translate EXEC CICS statements in your source code. The local syntax check can use the OS/390® CICS Transaction Server 3.1 syntax or the workstation syntax.

Your source code must be in a z/OS® project before you can perform a local syntax check using CICS TXSeries for Windows.
To check the syntax of a remote file using CICS TXSeries for Windows, do these steps:
  1. Open the COBOL Settings Properties page.
  2. Click the Local Compile Options tab.
  3. Type TEST,ADATA,EXIT(ADEXIT(FTTFDBKW)) in the Compile Options field.
  4. Type \CICS\INCLUDE in the SYSLIB field.
  5. To perform the syntax check with the OS/390 CICS Transaction Server 3.1 syntax, do these steps:
    1. Select the Apply button to save the values set on the Local Compile Options page.
    2. Select the Procedures and Steps tab on the COBOL Settings properties page.
    3. Select the Use CICS check box.
    4. Select CICS Transaction Server for z/OS v3.1 from the drop-down list next to the check box.
    5. Click Apply and then OK.
  6. To perform the syntax check with the workstation syntax, do these steps:
    1. Select Invoke preprocessor.
    2. Accept or modify the Pre-processor Options defaults: CICSNT -lIBMCOB -adesvp.
    3. Click Apply and then OK.
  7. In the z/OS Projects view, right-click the resource you want to check the syntax of and click Syntax Check > Local.
Errors found by the syntax checker will be listed in the Remote Error List view.
Double-click on an error listed in the Remote Error List view to display the corresponding line of code in the LPEX Editor.
