Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

COBOL/XML Mapping migration tool

Mapping migration tool gives you the capability to migrate older mapping session files (of type .cmx) to the new format that was introduced in Rational® Developer for System z® Version 7.

How to use the Mapping migration tool

The input into the Mapping migration tool is a set of three files:
  1. A file representing the "sources" for mapping. It could be a COBOL (complete program or a copy file), XML, XSD or WSDL file. For example, "FAU.cbl"
  2. A file representing the "targets" for mapping. It could be a XML, XSD or WSDL file, or a COBOL (complete program or a copy file), For example, "FAUO.xsd"
  3. The pre-Version 7 mapping metadata ".cmx" file (for example fau.cmx) that links the "sources" and the "targets".

The set of three files (sources, targets, and mapping metadata) must be present in the same folder level in a project within a Rational Developer for System z workspace. The output of the Mapping migration tool is the new mapping metadata file, for example "fau.mapping", that will be placed in a folder of user's choice.

To invoke the Mapping migration tool, Double click on the .cmx file.

Press the Browse button to display a Browse window. In the window you then can specify target folder for the migrated mapping session file. You can also overwrite the name of the mapping session file which by default is set to the name of the file name of the file that is being migrated. The extension of the new mapping session file must be ".mapping".

To migrate the old ".cmx" file after all the necessary information has been entered, clicks the Migrate button. After the old ".cmx" file has been migrated and the new ".mapping" file is created, the new Mapping editor is automatically open on the new ".mapping" file, see the example shown in Figure 2.
