Suppressed records

Records that do not match a record layout are called suppressed records.

Templates can be used to define multiple record layouts within the Formatted Data Editor. However, only one record layout can be displayed at a time. When a template that contains more than one record layout is applied to a data set in the Formatted Data Editor, the editor uses either record length criteria, record identification criteria, or both, to match the available record layouts to the records in the data set. If there are any records in the data set that do not match the current record layout, those records are grouped into suppressed sets and displayed as a shadow line. For more information about working with suppressed sets, see the Shadow line section.
