Data set categories and types

You can allocate data sets with default characteristics assigned according to their category and type.
When you allocate a new data set, one option presented on the New Data Set wizard is Specify characteristics by usage type. This option allows you to select a category and type for your new data set and assigns data set characteristics appropriate to your choice. The following table lists the categories and types available and their default data set characteristics.
