Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Generating, submitting, and tracking JCL, and viewing the output

When you want to compile your code, you must generate some JCL to run the compilation.
To generate, submit, and track JCL, and view the output, follow these steps:
  1. In the Remote Systems view or the z/OS® Projects view, right-click the member name of the program you want to compile and click Generate JCL.
  2. Select For Compile. A window opens requesting confirmation of where to write the generated JCL.
  3. Verify the member name and the data set this member will be generated to and click OK. Developer for System z® opens a message box when JCL generation is complete.
  4. To submit the JCL, right-click the JCL member name and then click Submit.
  5. To see if the compilation was successful, open the JES subsystem in the Remote Systems view, right-click the job you have just submitted, and click Open. The job output is displayed in the System z LPEX Editor.
For more detailed instructions for each of these steps, see the Related tasks.
