The advanced copy wizard offers additional functionality
for copying data sets that is not available in the Remote Systems
Explorer view.
With the advanced copy wizard, you can perform the following tasks:
- Selectively copy a range of records from a source data set.
- Copy to a different type of data set.
- Allocate an appropriate target data set.
- Use templates to select records, map fields, and scramble fields.
Launch the advanced copy wizard by:
- Select a single data set or selection of members from a single
PDS/PDSE to be copied from the Remote Systems view.
- From the pop-up menu, Select File Manager then Copy.
- On the first page of the wizard, titled Source Information:
- If the source data set is a PDS/PDSE:
- Set the number of records to skip. If defined, copying will begin
after skipping the number of records defined here.
- Set the maximum number of records to copy. A numeric value can
be used, or you can enter ALL to copy all records.
- Select from the drop-down list which members to copy.
- If the source data set a VSAM:
- Specify a start key. If defined, copying will begin at the first
record with a key that is greater than or equal to that of the value
defined here.
- Set the number of records to skip. If defined, copying will begin
after skipping the number of records defined here.
- Set the maximum number of records to copy. A numeric value can
be used, or you can enter ALL to copy all records.
- On the second page of the wizard, titled Choose Target:
- Enter the target data set that the files will be copied too. You
can manually enter the name of the target data set, or select Browse and
choose it from a list of available data sets.
Note: If the target you
specify does not exist, the wizard will allow you to allocate it on
the next page of the wizard.
- Select a disposition:
- MOD - Selecting MOD will append the copied data to any existing
data in the target data set.
- OLD - Selecting OLD will initialize the copied data from the beginning
of the target data set. This option will replace any existing records.
- Click Finish to complete the wizard, or Next if
you would like to use templates during the copy.
- On the page titled, Allocate Target:
Note: This
page will only be displayed if the Target that you specified in the
previous step does not exist.
- If you would like an existing data set to be used as the model
for your new data set, define that in the Like data set field.
- Select a Library type from the drop-down
list for the new data set.
Note: Based on the selection made here,
additional fields will be made available to further customize the
allocation
- Click Finish to complete the wizard, or Next if
you would like to map a template.
- On the last page of the wizard, titled Map Template:
- Place a check mark next to Use Templates.
- Define the From and To templates.

- Select Finish to exit the wizard and copy
the data set.
