Adding a message

This topic describes how to add a message to your message file (also called a message definition file).

To complete the tasks in this topic area, you must have completed the following tasks:

To add a message to your message file:

  1. Switch to the Enterprise Service Tools perspective.
  2. Ensure that the Outline view is visible in the Enterprise Service Tools perspective of the workbench. If the Outline view is not visible, from the workbench menu, click Window > Show View > Outline.
Note: You can also perform this procedure by selecting the Messages folder in the message definition editor.
  3. In the Outline view, right-click the Messages folder, then click Add Message on the pop-up menu. A simple message is immediately added to your message model and is assigned a default name.
  4. Either type a new name for the message or press Enter to accept the default.
Tip: When you add a message to your message model, an associated complex type and global element with the same name as the message are also created. The global element and the message cannot have different names and changing the name of one changes the names of both. The complex type can be renamed.

You can now configure the properties of the message to your exact requirements. For further information on configuring message model objects see Configuring message model objects.
