Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Single format

The single format displays the contents of only one record at a time.

Instead of displaying all records from a data set like in the table format, the single format displays only one record at a time. This view is available in both the formatted and character pages as well as in hex format. The single format is also a default display within all of the views and is typically used with the table format. The single format is useful for viewing and editing all of the information associated with a single record.

To edit the contents of a record in the single format, select a field within the view and type over the existing data.

The single format can be used by itself, with the table format, or not at all. All of the views are synchronized so that they can be used together to quickly edit records. If a record is modified in one view, the changes will appear in the other view instantaneously. The single format also keeps track of what record is currently selected in the table format and will change as different records are selected. Alternatively, records selected in the single format are reflected in the table format. Buttons located along the right side of the single format allow you to traverse the data set record by record without having to leave the view. The single format may also be hidden from the editor panel or brought back into view by clicking the Collapse/Expand button located at the top of the Formatted Data Editor.

Single format displays all of the data associated with a single record of a data set.
