You must be successfully logged on to your remote system.

To allocate a partitioned data set (PDS) or sequential file (SEQ) from an existing file, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the data set or file that has the same characteristics as the one you want to allocate.
  2. Select the PDS or SEQ file that has the characteristics you want for the new PDS or SEQ file.
  3. Optional: Select a PDS or SEQ file and bring up the Property view to be sure you have what you want.
  4. Select Allocate Like from the pop-up menu. Click Next. On the next wizard page, the selected data set name is shown and the radio button "Copy characteristics from an existing data set" is selected.
  5. Click Finish. (Optional: Click Next. The name of the data set or SEQ file whose characteristics are being copied is displayed for verification purposes.)
  6. Enter the name of the data set to be allocated and verify the data set characteristics with Verify. (Optional: You can change the characteristics if necessary.)
  7. Click Finish.
  8. When the data set is allocated, you can work with it as you would with other data sets.
