Recording an Extract action

This topic describes how to create an Extract action during a screen operations recording.

You can record Extract actions during flow recording or during screen operations recording, with somewhat different results (see Comparison of results: Flow recording and screen operations recording).

You can have multiple Extract actions for the same application screen, and you can have Extract actions and Insert actions for the same application screen.

To record an Extract action during a screen operations recording:

  1. Navigate to the application screen where you want to create an Extract action.

  2. On the toolbar of the host editor click Extract Data from Screen Extract.

  3. Extracting text from a field:
    1. As you move the mouse pointer icon in the session area each field that the icon passes over is highlighted with red square brackets (see Figure 1).
    2. Click the field from which you want the text to be extracted.

Note: To extract text from a rectangular area you must create the Extract action during flow recording (see Recording Extract actions and Insert actions during flow recording).
