Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Obtaining customized JCL templates from your system administrator

Typically a system administrator for the z/OS® system that you are planning to use to compile, link, and test your generated programs is the best person to customize the JCL templates.

Until this customization is done, someone must manually modify each JCL file created by the Generated Runtime Code wizard before the JCL file can be successfully submitted to z/OS.

Follow these steps to obtain customized JCL templates from your system administrator:

  1. At some point after you have installed the Rational® Developer for System z® on your workstation, use the Export control to export the default global JCL templates to your local file system (see Controls for working with JCL templates).

  2. Send the exported JCL templates to the system administrator for customization.

  3. Also provide the system administrator with a copy of the topics in this section of the online help describing how to customize the JCL templates (see Step B2. (Recommended) Customize the JCL templates).

  4. After the system administrator has customized the JCL templates, use the Import control or the Import from Host control to import the customized global JCL templates either from your local file system or else directly from a location on the z/OS system (see Controls for working with JCL templates).
Note: Before you can use the Import from Host control, you need to use the Remote Systems view to create a connection to the z/OS system (see Step B3(a). Create a connection to the remote z/OS system).
