Rational Developer for System z, Version 7.6

Browse capability

The browse capability provided with File Manager Integration allows data sets to be opened and viewed in a read only edit session. While using the browse session, the Formatted Data Editor offers the same functionality and editor display views as a regular edit session, however modifications are not allowed. The lack of editing capability offers other advantages such as requiring less resources to open and browse a data set. Browsing also prevents any possibility of accidental data modification.

To start a browse session, right-click on any data set within the Remote Systems View and select Browse... from the pop-up menu.

Starting a browse session from the pop-up menu.
Note: Although a browse session disables standard editing capabilities, not all editor functionality is lost. When using a browse session, the copy function and find function as well as all other editor functions that do not modify the content of the data set are still available. The copy function may be used only to copy the contents of cells within the editor. The find/replace functionality is limited to searching and restricts the ability to replace text.
