Changing the name of a field

Use the Screen Structure tab of the screen message editor to change the name of a field in a screen message.

You can change the name of a field in a screen message file to make the name more meaningful (for example, "PromptText" instead of "Field882").

To change the name of a field:
  1. Verify that the Screen Structure tab of the screen message editor is active (see Screen Structure tab).

  2. Select the field whose name you want to change, so that the Properties of the field are displayed in the Properties view (see Displaying field information).
Tip: If the Properties view is not visible, see Opening or reopening a view.
  3. In the Properties view, click the Name property.

  4. Type a new name for the field.

Note: If you have a BMS map for the same application screen as the existing screen message, then you can add the BMS information from the BMS map to the screen message. During this operation, if the BMS map contains a name for a field, then this BMS field name is used to replace the default field name for the field in the screen message (see Assigning BMS field names).
