This topic describes how to use the Create Template wizard
to create an advanced copybook template based on one or more source
files.
A connection to a z/OS® system
must first be established in the Remote System Explorer view of Rational® Developer for System z®. One or more pre-existing
COBOL copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files must also be available on your
host system.
Advanced copybook templates are created from one or more
COBOL copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files. Refer to the following procedure
to create an advanced copybook template.
- Launch the Create Template wizard from either the File
menu or from the pop-up menu after preselecting one or more COBOL
copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files.
- The Create Template wizard opens.
- In the field labeled Data Set,
select the Browse button and navigate to the
data set where you want to save the new template.
- In the field labeled Template,
enter a file name for your new template.
- Place a bullet next to the Advanced copybook
template template type and click Next to
move to the next page.
- Use the Add button to select
one or more COBOL copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files. The Add button
will only allow you to browse PDS data sets that are mapped to an
appropriate COBOL or PL/I extension (cpy, cob, cbl, inc, pli, plx,
pl1). The order of these source files can be changed using the buttons
within the wizard. The new template will be based on the source files
that you select here. No action is necessary if one or more COBOL
copybooks or PL/I INCLUDE files were preselected before opening the
Create Template wizard.
- Click the Edit button to enter
the Edit copybook selection page to modify additional options
for each source file that you selected in the previous step.
- Select Finish to save the new template and exit
the wizard.
The new advanced copybook template will be saved to the
data set that you specified and your new template will open in the
Template Editor automatically.
