Rational Developer for System z

Where are the properties pages?

With the introduction of property groups, many local and remote resource property pages have been relocated. This topic explains the new property group mechanism and how to find and update resource properties.
Note: This topic answers questions you might have about using properties if you have installed a previous version of Rational® Developer for System z®. If you have never used a version of Rational Developer for System z that did not include property groups, you may not need these questions answered.

What is a property group?

A property group is a collection of resource properties that are defined and maintained as a set and associated with a particular local or remote system. Rational Developer for System z uses property groups to make defining, updating, and sharing resource properties easier and more manageable.

You can learn more about property groups from the following topics:

How do I set properties for resources?

Property groups are defined in the Property Group Manager at the system level. You create a new property group using the Property Group Manager and assign it to a resource using the Associate Property Group action from the z/OS® Projects or Remote Systems views. A property group that has been assigned to a resource is called the current property group.

You can learn more about creating property groups and assigning them to resources from the following topics:

What happened to properties for resources I created in previous releases?

Rational Developer for System z migrates properties defined in a previous release for local COBOL and PL/I projects, MVS subprojects, and MVS Files into property groups. It can also import property XML files created in a previous release into property groups.

You can learn more about migrating properties into property groups from the following topics:

Where are the Import Properties and Export Properties actions?

The Import Properties and Export Properties actions for MVS subprojects, local COBOL and PL/I projects, and MVS Files have been replaced by the Import and Export actions in the Property Group Manager. Instead of importing and exporting properties for a specific resource, you can import and export one or more property groups.

You can learn more about importing and exporting property groups from the following topics:

How can I tell what the property values are for a resource?

You can look at specific property values using the Property Group Manager view in the z/OS Projects perspective.

You can learn more about viewing property values from the following topics:

What if a resource has no property groups?

If you open a resource Properties window and the table on the Property Group page is empty, you can take one of the following actions:
