Screen Descriptions tab

The Screen Descriptions tab of the screen message editor allows you to modify an existing screen description in the screen message file or create a new one.

The right side of the Screen Descriptions ab displays an image of the application screen from which the screen message was created. When you select a descriptor on the left side of the Screen Descriptions tab, the screen message editor changes the appearance of the screen image to indicate the type of descriptor that you selected. With some types of descriptors, you can use the screen image as an aid when you are creating or modifying a descriptor (see Modifying a descriptor).

The left side of the Screen Descriptions tab displays a tree representation of the following items:
  • The screen descriptions contained in the screen message being edited.
  • The descriptors contained in each screen description.
By right-clicking an entry in the tree and then selecting an item from the resulting pop-up menu, you can add or delete a screen description or you can add, delete, or modify an individual descriptor.

When the Screen Descriptions tab is active, the screen message editor displays in the Outline view a tree representation of the screen descriptions and descriptors contained in the screen message, similar to the tree representation displayed on the left side of the Screen Descriptions tab. You can use the Outline view to select and modify descriptors, but not to add or delete a screen description or a descriptor.

When you select a descriptor in either the Screen Descriptions tab or in the Outline view, the screen message editor displays the properties of the selected descriptor in the Properties view. In the Properties view, you can then select an individual property and modify its value.
