Rational Developer for System z

Create a simple copybook template

This topic describes how to use the Create Template wizard to create a simple copybook template based on a single source file.
A connection to a z/OS® system must first be established in the Remote System Explorer view of Rational® Developer for System z®. A pre-existing COBOL copybook or PL/I INCLUDE must also be available on your host system.
Templates created from a single source file are based on either a single COBOL copybook or a PL/I INCLUDE file. Refer to the following procedure to create a simple copybook template.
  1. Launch the Create Template wizard from either the File menu or from the pop-up menu after preselecting a single COBOL copybook or PL/I INCLUDE file.
  2. The Create Template wizard opens.
    1. In the field labeled Data Set, select the Browse button and navigate to the data set where you want to save the new template.
    2. In the field labeled Template, enter a file name for your new template.
    3. Place a bullet next to the Simple copybook template template type and click Next to move to the next page.
    4. In the field labeled Copybook, select the Browse button and select a COBOL copybook or PL/I INCLUDE file. The browse button will only allow you to browse PDS data sets mapped to an appropriate COBOL or PL/I extension (cpy, cob, cbl, inc, pli, plx, pl1). The new template will be based on the copybook or INCLUDE that you select here. No action is necessary if a COBOL copybook or PL/I INCLUDE was preselected before opening the Create Template wizard.
  3. Select Finish to save the new template and exit the wizard.

The new simple copybook template will be saved to the data set that you specified and your new template will open in the Template Editor automatically.
