Rational Developer for System z

Generating a debug configuration from CICS application data

Rational® Developer for System z® can generate a CICS® debug configuration from information it gathers from your CICS applications.
Support for CICS debug configurations requires the following software:

Before you can create a debug configuration for CICS, you need to have defined at least one CICS connection.

Some fields in the CICS Debug Configuration wizard are specific to the version of IBM Debug Tool in use at your site. Use the CICS Debug Configuration preference page to specify the IBM Debug Tool version.

Rational Developer for System z can generate a CICS debug configuration from the following information:
Table 1.
Resource type Information gathered to generate a CICS debug configuration
A program in the CICS Explorer Programs view CICS Region name and Program name (or program names when multiple programs are selected)
A transaction in the CICS Explorer Transactions view CICS Region name and Transaction ID
An EST Single Service (XSE) Web Services for CICS project The Program name (business application name) and CICS Region name (if it exists) are retrieved from the generation properties file. If the generation properties file does not exist, the debug configuration wizard is launched and you must specify the required information.
A flow in an EST SFM project For SFM, multiple flows can exist in the same project. Each of these flows generates its own program in CICS. The Transaction ID and Flow program name is retrieved from the generation properties files. If the generation properties files do not exist, the debug configuration wizard is launched and you must specify the required information.
A z/OS® Project The transaction ID or program name(s) is retrieved from the first Application Deployment Manager (ADM) manifest file associated with the project. If there is more than one transaction, the first transaction is used. If the ADM manifest file does not exist, the debug configuration wizard is launched and you must specify the required information.
To generate a CICS debug configuration from one of these resource types:
  1. Right-click the resource and then select (CICS) Debug > Create debug configuration. The debug configuration is generated and the debug configurations wizard is opened with the newly created configuration selected.
  2. Complete any other options and click Apply to update the remote debug profile and activate it. For more information about the fields on the CICS debug configuration pages, see Creating a debug configuration for a CICS application.
