Adding a local element, a wildcard element, or an element reference

This topic describes how to add a local element, wildcard element, or element reference to a message, a type, a group.

Adding a local element

To add a new local element to a message, a type, or a group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new local element.
  2. Click Add Local Element. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new local element with a default name to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new local element.
    3. It scrolls to display the new local element:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the local element to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the local element to a group.
    4. It highlights the new local element and makes it an input field.
  3. In the input field, type the name that you want to use for the new local element, or press the Enter key to use the default name.

Adding a wildcard element

This task is very similar to the task of adding a local element.

To add a new wildcard element to a message, a type, or a group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new wildcard element.
  2. Click Add Wildcard Element. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new wildcard element to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new wildcard element.
    3. It scrolls to display the new wildcard element:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the wildcard element to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the wildcard element to a group.
    4. It highlights the new wildcard element.

Adding an element reference

An element reference is a reference to an existing message in the same message file.

To add a new element reference to a message, type, or group:
  1. In the Advanced tab, right-click the item to which you want to add a new element reference.
  2. Click Add Element Reference. The flow message editor does the following:
    1. It adds a new element reference to the end of the message, type, or group.
    2. It automatically updates any related structures in other folders to include the new element reference.
    3. It scrolls to display the new element reference:
      • In the Types folder, if you are adding the element reference to a message or type.
      • In the Groups folder, if you are adding the element reference to a group.
    4. It highlights the new element reference and makes it a list box.
  3. In the list box, select the message to which you want the element reference to refer.
