Message modeling process

This topic provides an overview of the message modeling process.

Messages are used in service flow modeling for data transport between applications and to define the service interface. Messages must have a structure and format which is agreed by the sending and receiving applications.

A message is modeled by a message file (also called a message definition file) that describes the structure and content of the message. You can create a message file by creating a blank message file or importing COBOL data structures as messages.
