The refresh dependencies function determines and retrieves the data set members that are used by PL/I include directives or COBOL copy directives. This function is intended to be used before the remote or local syntax checking functions are used. To use this function select the project from the SCLM view, right click, and select Syntax Check->Refresh Dependencies. The system automatically downloads the dependencies from the host and displays a list of them in a dialog.
Settings for refreshing dependencies and for remote syntax checking are stored within the properties of the RSE view. Default refresh dependency and syntax check properties can be set on the MVS™ Files subsystem within the RSE view. You can also set these properties for individual development group data sets and members within the development group data sets. If you customize the settings for a specific data set or member, subsequent changes to the settings at the subsystem level are not automatically propagated to the data set or member.
Before gathering dependencies for the first time, you must specify a valid job card in the RSE view properties. You also need specify the name of an existing partitioned data set or PDSE to hold temporary JCL. You may need to specify compiler options, but you do not need to specify the SYSLIB data sets within the property pages because that information is gathered from SCLM automatically, Other output data sets such as object and listing data sets are not used by the Refresh Dependencies or Remote Syntax Check and do not need to be specified.
In order to use the refresh dependencies and syntax check services of SCLM Developer Toolkit, you must associate file extensions with the SCLM language names in your system. Use the Language Extension preference page to create these associations (Window > Preferences > Team > SCLM Preferences > Language Extension). In many cases, the Infer button on that page can establish the associations automatically.
