Displaying field information

Use the Screen Structure tab of the screen message editor to display information about a field, such as the name, offset, and length of the field.
To display information about a field:
  1. Verify that the Screen Structure tab of the screen message editor is active (see Screen Structure tab).

  2. Select the field about which you want to display information. You can select the field either in the Screen Structure tab or in the Outline view:
    • To select a field in the Screen Structure tab:
      1. Click the mouse anywhere over the screen image in Screen Structure tab.
      2. The screen message editor displays a dotted red marking rectangle around the entire area of the field over which you clicked the mouse.
        • To select another field:
          1. Click once to remove the current marking rectangle.
          2. Click the mouse anywhere over the screen image to select another field.
        • Another way to select another field is as follows:
          1. After the marking rectangle is displayed, use the mouse to drag the marking rectangle around the screen image.
          2. The screen message editor displays the marking rectangle around each field as the mouse pointer passes over the field.
    • To select a field in the Outline view (see Screen Structure tab):
      1. Click the name of the field (for example, Field162) about which you want to display information.
  3. The screen message editor displays in the Properties view the properties of the selected field.

Tip: If the Properties view is not visible, see Opening or reopening a view.

You cannot change any of the properties of the selected field except the Name property (see Changing the name of a field and Assigning BMS field names).
