Screen Structure tab

In the Screen Structure tab, and also in the Outline view and Properties view when the Screen Structure tab is active, the screen message editor provides information about the text and the fields of the application screen from which the screen message that you are editing was originally created.

The Screen Structure tab displays a simplified image of the original application screen. All the text in this screen image is displayed with a foreground color of white and with a background color of either blue or black. A blue background indicates an unprotected or input field, while a black background indicates a protected field.

Moving the mouse pointer over a field in the screen image causes the screen message editor to display that field's name next to the mouse pointer (see Working with field information).

When the Screen Structure tab is active, the screen message editor displays in the Outline view a tree view of all the fields that occurred in the original application screen. The fields are listed by name and in the order in which the fields occurred in the original application screen.

Also, when the Screen Structure tab is active, selecting a field in the screen image or selecting a field name in the Outline view causes the screen message editor to display in the Properties view the properties of the selected field (see Displaying field information).

You cannot edit any of the properties of a field except the Name property (see Changing the name of a field).

A screen message does not necessarily preserve all the field attributes and text colors that were present in the original application screen. However, this does not mean a loss of functionality in matching a screen description to an original application screen. On the Screen Descriptions tab of the screen message editor, you can specify almost any field attribute or text color as part of a screen description that you create to enable the service flow project tools to recognize a particular application screen (see Adding a Color descriptor).
