If you have the compiler installed on AIX® 5.3, you might want to migrate the operating
system to AIX 6.1.
The compiler filesets are not OS specific and do not require migration
if XL C/C++ V11.1 is
installed on AIX 5.3 and the
operating system is migrated to AIX 6.1
or higher. If an OS specific fileset is required in the future for
a higher level of AIX, it will
be identified in a Tech Note tied to the PTF that adds support for
that version of AIX.
Note: When an AIX 5.3
machine is migrated to AIX 6.1,
the AIX 5.x C++ runtime fileset
(
xlC.aix50.rte) is uninstalled, and the AIX 6.1 C++ runtime fileset (
xlC.aix61.rte)
is installed from the AIX 6.1
install image. The service level of the AIX 6.1
C++ runtime on the install image might be different from the service
level of the AIX 5.x C++ runtime
on your machine prior to migration. This means that after an OS migration,
any PTFs applied to the C++ runtime before OS migration is gone, and
then has to be re-installed.
If the AIX 6.1 C++ runtime is at a different version,
you can download the latest runtime updates from Fix Central.
