Setting XSL file preferences

You can select the XSL version and root element used by default when you create a new XSL file.

About this task

On the XSL preference page, you can set the following default attributes for new XSL files:
  • The XSL version (version 1.0 or version 2.0).
  • The root element. The root element is used to define the namespace used by the XSL style sheet and the version of XSL being used in the document.

Procedure

  1. Click Window > Preferences > XML > XSL.
  2. Select either Version 1.0 or Version 2.0 to as the default XSL version used for new XSL files.
  3. Select Use <xsl:stylesheet> if you want to use xsl:stylesheet as your default style sheet root element, or select Use <xsl:transform> to use xsl:transform as your default style sheet root element. Both root element have the exact same meaning and syntax. You can use whichever one you prefer.
  4. Click Apply, then OK to save your changes.

Results

If you change the XSL preferences, root element, existing XSL files are not affected by the changes; the preferences only apply to the default settings for new XSL files. In new XSL files you create, you can choose to not use the default preference for XSL version or root element.
