System Architect® 11.3.1.5. This Readme is divided into the following sections:

System Requirements
Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5 is supported on the platforms listed below.
Clients
- Microsoft Windows® 7 (32-bit)
- Microsoft Windows® 7 (64-bit)
- Microsoft Windows Vista® with SP 1
Note: Installing Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5 on this
platforms requires that User Access Control be disabled so the Microsoft .Net
Framework can be installed as required. If the UAC is enabled, the Rational
System Architect installation cannot be completed.
- Microsoft Windows XP with SP3
Servers
- Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 (32-bit)
- Microsoft Windows Server® 2008 (64-bit) - This OS is not recommended due to performance limitations.
Note:
Installing Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5 on either of the Windows Server
2008 platforms above requires User Access Control (UAC) be disabled so that Microsoft .NET can be installed.
If UAC is enabled, the Rational System Architect installation cannot be completed.
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 32-bit Standard Edition (with SP 2)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 32-bit (with SP 2)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 64-bit (with SP 2)
Note: This OS is not recommended due to performance limitations.
Terminal Server Environments
A Terminal Server is an underlying platform. Rational System Architect is supported
when installed directly on a Terminal Server or when installed on server products
that run on Terminal Server, such as Citrix® or VMWare®.
- Terminal Server:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
- Citrix Metaframe Presentation Server 4.0 and Citrix Presentation
Server 4.0 (Advanced Edition):
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with SP2
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard with SP2
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise
- VMWare ESX Server 4.5:
- ALP Strategic Windows Client and Server Platforms
Minimum System Requirements
The minimum system requirements for running Rational System Architect on the platforms
listed above are as follows:
- Administrative privileges on the system (during installation only).
- Pentium®-class PC, 2 GHz or higher, minimum of 1 GB of RAM, Super VGA
monitor (with the screen resolution set to at least 800 x 600, small fonts
setting).
- Disk space of 3.5 GB during installation and 300 MB after the installation
is complete.
Note: This amount of space allows third-party software to
be installed as needed (for example, Microsoft .NET Framework).
- The latest service packs and system upgrades that are available from Microsoft
at http://update.microsoft.com/.
- If you plan to use Microsoft SQL Server® Express 2005
on the same computer, review the minimum requirements for the SQL Server Express.

Network Requirements
Rational System Architect is designed to work in a LAN environment or on stand-alone
computers. To work concurrently with other users, use the following setup:
- 100 Mbps connections between all clients and the central database that houses
encyclopedia projects.
- 100 Mbps Ethernet network with users getting high throughput rates.
Note: Typical throughput rates on 100 Mbps LANs range from
40-60 Mbps for upstream and downstream data transfer.
- Optional: Rational System Architect is supported by Citrix Metaframe Presentation
Server 4.5, Windows Server 2003 32-bit Standard Edition, and Windows Server
2003 32-bit Enterprise Edition.
Rational System Architect supports the following database repositories for encyclopedias:
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express
- Oracle® 10g Database (not supported on Windows Vista)
- Oracle® 11g Database
At the time of writing, these third-party products are tested with Rational
System Architect 11.3.1.5:
- Microsoft Office 2003
- Microsoft Office 2007
- Crystal Reports® 10, 11
Internet Browsers
Tools in the Rational System Architect suite (SA Publisher, SA Compare,
and HTML Reports) generate web pages from the database repositories. The following
browsers are supported for viewing those web pages:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 and 7
- Mozilla® Firefox® 3.0 and 3.5.9
Operating System Locales
Rational System Architect is supported on all locales. Specific tests are performed
on the English, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, and Spanish versions of the Windows operating systems listed above.

Compatible Products
All Rational System Architect supporting products, such as Rational System
Architect® XT, Rational System Architect Compare, Rational System Architect
Publisher, and Rational System Architect Catalog Manager must be at the same
exact version as Rational System Architect. Therefore, if you upgrade Rational
System Architect, you must also upgrade these other products.
Rational System Architect integrates with other Rational products
as follows:
- Rational System Architect DOORS® Interface 11.3.1.5, which is
available with Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5, is compatible with Rational
DOORS 9.0. 9.1, 9.2, and 9.3.
- Rational System Architect Change integration supports Rational Change
4.7, 5.0 and 5.1.
- Rational System Architect Focal Point Integration supports Rational
Focal Point server 6.2 or higher.
- Rational System Architect RDS integration supports RDS 5.0.
- Rational System Architect RPE integration supports Report Publishing Engine

- Rational System Architect Insight integration supports Rational Insight 1.0
- Rational System Architect Cognos Bridge supports IBM Cognos® Business Intelligence 8.4.1
Rational System Architect XT - You can now install Rational
System Architect XT on the same computer as Rational System Architect. This
installation includes these key requirements:
- You must install the same version of each product.
- You must install Rational System Architect before you install Rational System
Architect XT.
- When you install Rational System Architect XT over Rational System Architect,
the installation is incremental. Therefore, you cannot choose a different
installation path for Rational System Architect XT.
- You cannot run Rational System Architect while clients are running Rational
System Architect XT on the Rational System Architect XT server.

Rational System Architect installation prerequisites
Rational System Architect and the Rational System Architect for DOORS®
Interface require that the Microsoft® Windows® Installer 3.1 service
be installed on the operating system of the target computer. If this service
is not present, the installation stops and you are notified how to obtain and
install the Windows Installer 3.1. Additionally, Rational System Architect requires
that certain products be installed before the Rational System Architect installation.
If these prerequisites are installed, the Rational System Architect installation
proceeds. However, if prerequisites are not installed, the missing are displayed
and you can click 'Install’ to install them. If the prerequisites
cannot be installed, the Rational System Architect installation cannot proceed.
Rational System Architect installs the following prerequisite products if they
are not already installed on your computer:
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (also installs 2.0)
- Microsoft Visual J#® 2.0 Redistributable Package
- Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility
- Microsoft Oracle .NET Data Provider
- Microsoft Primary Interoperability Assemblies 2005
Note: After the prerequisite products are installed, they are not be
removed if you uninstall Rational System Architect. You can remove these products
manually by using the Add/Remove control from the Windows Control Panel.
Additional products used or installed:
- Microsoft MSI 3.1
- MDAC 2.7 (with SP 1)
- Microsoft XML Parser 3.0 (with SP 7)
- Rational System Architect is based in part on software from Colosseum Builders,
Inc.
- International Proofreader English (US and UK) text proofing system

- Java™ Runtime Environment – Minimum version required is JRE 1.5 or higher.
Earlier versions of the JRE render SVG diagrams incorrectly and cause them
to display an 'Applet Loading' message.
- IBM JRE 5 or 6 - All the installation files in the Rational System Architect family of products install the Java fix pack for the "Critical security vulnerability alert." For more information about the fix pack, go to http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/alerts/cve-2010-4476.html.

IMPORTANT: Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5 is
a full installation. If you have Rational System Architect versions 11.3.1.1,
11.3, 11.2 (with Service Pack 1), or earlier installed on your computer, you
must uninstall those versions before you install Rational System Architect
11.3.1.5.
During the course of an installation, you may be prompted to restart Windows to complete the installation. If so, you have to restart Windows for the installation to resume and complete. When you restart Windows Vista, the Rational System Architect installation resumes automatically. However, when you restart Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, you also have to restart the Rational System Architect installation manually for it to resume and complete.
To install Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5, proceed as follows:
- Uninstall any earlier Rational System Architect versions
from your computer.
- Obtain the Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5 installation software, which
is available as a download or on a DVD.
- Depending on the installation package that you have, proceed as follows:
- If you downloaded Rational System Architect 11.3.1.5, open the folder into
which you downloaded it, and click the installation file.
- If you have the installation DVD, insert it into the DVD drive.
- Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.
The paid add-on products for Rational System Architect's, such as IBM Rational
System Architect Compare, IBM Rational System Architect Publisher,
and IBM Rational System Architect Simulator III, along with its SA Viewer
simulation engine, are installed with Rational System Architect. These products
are enabled by license files that you purchase.
