What's new in version 2.0

FLEXnet Version

The FLEXnet version has been updated to 11.5. All IBM® Rational® Solutions for Enterprise Lifecycle Management licensed applications now are based on FLEXnet version 11.5.

IBM Rational License Borrower tool

The IBM Rational License Borrower tool allows you to check out a license for an IBM Rational application (connecting to Rational License Server TL) for a specified period. A BORROW license can be borrowed from a license server system through a special checkout. The user can then run the application when the computer is no longer connected to the license server and retain the license for a specified borrowing period.

User-Based licenses

The user-based licensing scheme has replaced the per-user license solution. A user-based license uses the FLEXnet attribute USER_BASED to restrict licenses to specific users of a tool. This is compared to a floating license, which anyone can use. The users who can obtain a user-based license are specified in the FlexNet options file for the license server.

For more information on these features, see IBM Rational License Server TL - Licensing Guide.

Description

Workaround

N/A

The reread license file functionality, “ReRead License File” button, in the FLEXnet Windows lmtools.exe application does not work correctly.

When the license file is changed avoid using lmtools.exe to execute the reread functionality. Instead use one of the following alternatives:

  1. Use the command line tool:

lmutil lmreread –c licensefile

  2. Stop and restart the license server

N/A

The license log from the license server will display a warning message that can be ignored. Example:
”Multiple dup-groupings in effect for “FEATURE name”
    NONE vs USER HOST DISPLAY
    No further warnings about this”

N/A

The license log from the license server can occasionally display the following message that can be ignored:

"ERROR: Non-activation-capable daemon activation invoked with non-client-request event type"

Acresso support has agreed that this is a bug in FLEXnet and that “… there is no implication of this error message in that it does not impact your license server usage, performance and the error can be ignorable.”
