Installing Rational Directory Server 5.0

For complete information about how to install Rational Directory Server, see Rational Directory Server Installation Guide.

Obtaining a license for Rational Directory Server

By accepting the End User License Agreement (EULA), you agree to the terms of the License agreement. The RDS should be used with other licensed products.

What's new in version 5.0

Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication (T-FA) is a security process wherein the user provides two means of identification to authenticate to the server. You can configure the Rational Directory Server (RDS) to enable Two-factor authentication (T-FA) to integrate with the Radius Server. This feature is supported only by DOORS product to connect to the Radius Server.

Data Migration

The RDS supports data migration from TDS 3.0, 4.2, 4.3 and RDS 5.0 to the current RDS 5.0 repository. For more information on the data migration, see the Rational Directory Server Product Manual or Online Help.

Note: Data migration from TDS 3.0 to any of 4.2, 4.3 and 5.0 version requires "cn=admin" privilege. Migration from TDS 4.2, 4.3 or RDS 5.0 to RDS 5.0 requires Admin DN to be set as "uid=tdsadmin,ou=people,dc=telelogic,dc=com"

RDS Variants

The RDS supports two types of installations:

1.      RDS with Tivoli Directory Server

2.      RDS with Tomcat Apache Server.

Users, looking for just the directory server services, can use RDS Apache Server. Others, who need the complete enterprise solution, can use RDS Tivoli Directory Server.

Note:  RDS Apache is supported only with Rational Change integration.

Known problems

Description

Workaround

After migration, the data inconsistency is observed.

After migration, restart the RDS Tivoli Directory Server.

The Tivoli Directory Server back up and restore fails.

You must provide the home directory <RDS Install location>/Instance for the tdsadmin user.

The Customize Find displays error messages.

Use normal Find option to avoid errors.

The tdsadmin user cannot login to RDA in SSL mode, when RDS and RDA are installed separately on Solaris platform on RDS Apache.

Install RDA on Windows platform, and create a partition with SSL enabled.

Note: On Solaris platform, RDA cannot be used for SSL configuration.

The server does not start automatically after system reboot on RDS Apache.

Apache Directory Server is not set as a windows service. Start the server manually using the following start up and stop scripts.

·    <RDS_Home>/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.0/RDSUtility/rdsctl.bat start

·    <RDS_Home>/IBM/Rational/RDS_5.0/RDSUtility/rdsctl.bat stop

User looking for any automation can use the provided scripts to start/stop the server.

On UNIX platform, the RDS is not supported on NFS mounted systems.
