An action is a model element that represents the performance of a task or duty in a workflow or operation. Actions may contain internal actions that represent executable computations such as calculating a value. Each action must occur within the action before the workflow continues to the next shape on an activity diagram. To distinguish actions from states, remember that an action is a step in a process while a state represents a condition or situation during the life of an object.
