developerWorks is a community for developers, by developers. You matter to IBM, to your team, and to your world, and I'd like to take a moment to talk about my developerWorks and why it matters to YOU." My developerWorks saves you time, showcases your expertise, and allows you to connect with like-minded peers to collaborate on dW... and I'm going to show you an example of that now. A brand new user, John, finds developerWorks in a Google search and visits the site. As an IT professional, he is in constant need of quick answers, and optimal solutions. He sees that developerWorks is a good place to find helpful content and connect with other users so he decides to register with My developerWorks. John completes registration and fills out his My developerWorks profile. He adds a picture to his persona, indicates his interests and skills, adds some details about his professional expertise and selects tags to describe himself and help other IT professionals find him easier. John is excited that he can actually share his profile publicly with others, and it's even searchable on Google. His My developerWorks profile is a great resume of his accomplishments and goals as an IT professional. John now wants to take advantage of all the ways he can further personalize his experience on My developerWorks. He visits My home, he expects this will be where he will spend a good majority of his time since its just like a dashboard of all his activity across My developerWorks and he can quickly observe updates to Groups, Blogs, Bookmarks and Activities that he is watching or participating in. Since this is HIS view of developerWorks, he can rearrange the widgets, change the scope of what's displayed and customize the results to render content that matters most to him. For example: As a Java programmer, he wants to follow all the articles and tutorials specific to Java so he made that selection in the My feeds widget. No sooner had he done this, he noticed an article recently published on My developerWorks called "Mastering Eclipse V3.4, Part 2: The JDT". It was the perfect segue to what he was working on, a project using the Java Development Tools in the Eclipse IDE John reads the article and with the My developerWorks bookmarks plugin, he is able to earmark the link so he'll always have it handy. He adds a few tags of keywords that are meaningful to him (such as Java, Eclipse, and JDT), so that as his list of bookmarks grows, he and other IT professionals can search later and easily locate it because it's tagged. Just out of curiosity, John decides to see what other content has been tagged Java in My developerWorks. That's as easy as one click in Bookmarks. Even better, John can find other users that are tagging content similarly. He notices that Steve actually bookmarked another article in the same series. John wonders if Steve could be interested in the same topic. Easy enough, John can look at Steve's profile to learn more about his IT role, skills and interests. It seems that Steve and John DO have a lot in common so John decides to add Steve as a colleague. Plus, he notices that Steve has joined a few groups that are of interest in him. Not only does John join the groups, but he meets a few other colleagues facing a similar IT challenge as himself and together they set up an Activity tasked with finding the solution together. All of this in just a few minutes on My developerWorks. Now this is just the beginning, we are always looking for ways to save you time, gain exposure for your ideas and contributions, and help you connect with others who can help you. We also would appreciate your input to this process, Because just as your expertise and contributions matter to developerWorks, we want you to call developerWorks your destination for everything IT, making My developerWorks, Your developerWorks, and best of all, you can start today.
