A fix pack is a cumulative collection of APAR fixes. It includes APAR fixes that have not been previously released and it spans multiple database products. In general, fix packs can be applied on top of any previously shipped maintenance to bring the system up to the current fix pack level.
For an overview of what's new in a particular fix pack, refer to the "What's New" documents in the Product Overviews section of the documentation: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/db2luw/v9/topic/com.ibm.db2.udb.doc/doc/c0024220.htm
Particularly relevant to product installation, migration, usage, and troubleshooting are the topics on product packaging, terminology, and changed, deprecated, and discontinued functionality.
